Philthy+JJ's Eurotrip - UPDATED -

Post by philthy » Thu Jul 31, 2008 11:07 am

Just back from our 2 and a half week hoon around europe with friends and thought some might be interested to see some pictures (from my phone right now, girlfriend has the camera)
Image

We started off at Glasgow, then to Rosyth for the Zeebrugge ferry,(which, by the way, is run by the worlds rudest collection of immigrant workers).

Never park behind a VHPD on start up
Image

We then drove down to Lyon (8 hours) and stayed the night, we hit some rain en route.
Image

Leaving earlyish we started to make our way up the mountains towards Monaco via Gap. Jonathan had trouble with his driveshaft boot (2 weeks old) which split and spewed all the grease out. A few hours later with the help of a random french man and the onlooking of the police we were on our way again. Superglue FTW
Image

The roads there were breathtaking, we reached 9000ft above sea level where it was like being on the surface of the moon. We then got to 0ft from sea level in 2 hours

The Honda Elise, Exige and 360 lost the Z4, s2000 and motorbike in a matter of minutes but they caught up a few hours later in monaco

Once in Monaco, I stopped taking pictures with my phone! We stayed there for a night then headed to barcelona, more pictures to follow when I get the camera back.

We all stayed in the Barcelo Montserrat (arrived at 2am) which is a kind of boutique golf resort hotel which I would recommend to anyone, beautiful rooms etc. and was pretty cheap when booked in advance.

We then made our way onto Javea the next day for 6pm-ish, took our time getting down as we were staying in Javea for a week and it was only a 4 hour drive.

shame these are blurry...

UPDATE>

On the way back we went via Montpellier, nothing special tbh, just a stop en route.

Before we left javea (minus JJ)-

Bit of trouble with the police-

We went north via the Millau Bridge.

And onto Bourges, didnt expect it to be anything but was a gold mine, very nice.

We then went to Le mans for lunch (not a lot to see tbh) and finishd the day on in Honfleur

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

I had a mega time, and saw some pretty cool stuff along the way.

It was all the random stuff that made it awesome, and as phil mentioned things like some random french guy having all the kit I needed in his flat to temporary repair the CV boot at the side of the road on the big french holiday 14th July when everywhere was shut, meaning we had the most awesome drive over the alps.

I went on down to Marbella for the week and stayed in Puerto Banus, which was cool.

Everyone was really nice and showed a lot of interest in the cars, which was neat, as for us they are fairly common but in Spain / France not so.

The boys at the honda garage were pretty funny, I parked outside and went in to ask for parts and the guy laughed and said "we dont do parts for that type of car" - should have seen his face when I took him outside and showed him, all the mechanics were out noseying about it and taking photos

Had a cool meeting with the owner of the Koenigsegg, which is one of 6 made - Koenigsegg Edition (http://www.koenigseggedition.com) and he was mega enthusiastic. I knew they were pricey but the 1018bhp model like his is 1.5million euros. I told him it was meaty and he gave it some beans and shouted "ITS GUUUUT YAAAH!" before stalling it, then pulling away at about 6k rpm down the street.

I dont even have the V5 back for the elise yet and I have done 5.5k miles in it this month

Always lots of crazy arab boys down there - this year no exception - gemball porsches, chrome ferraris and matt black G55s aplenty.

This bit of road was like this (with added tunnels and overhanging cliff faces) for about 45miles of full attack driving.

Following the exige / 360 , cars flaming and the noise bouncing off the landscape was a memory I`ll remember for a long long time 8)

Then rolling into the port at monaco, doing a quick lap of the GP circuit and stopping for a corona - doesnt get any better! :thumbsup

We had a 65k mile VHPD, a ferrari and a honda elise - we were mildly bricking it

Only cars which had any issues were (you guessed it) the two lotii. Phil had to drive the last 100 miles in 4th cos the gear selector jammed  Z4 had a funy half hour when we were at 6500ft, kept cutting out, but we reckoned it was heat / altitude related as it was fine after that.
