Storage (Yr+) -* NEW * Problems?

Post by MRpunchinella » Thu Sep 18, 2008 8:37 am

Went down into the underground car park to start the car and take it for a wee run, sleepy time approaching...... :)

turned the key.....engine spins.......NADA :?

tries again.......ZIP :|

closes door......alarm on......off......tries again.....nuffin :scratch

checks all the usual and then a horrible feeling........what if its the same problem as last time......fuse at the fuel pump :x

pops the plastic disc and out falls a little utterly melted yellow blob.....  po'ed

bits of the fuse are left stuck in :rage ........

now I have to dig about without wrecking the thing using a mirror and head torch or whatever to see if its not totally goosed..... :chainsaw

Utter S***E........last thing I needed.

"car is going great yadda yadda"......should have STFU ...guess was going to happen anyway.....any Idea why its melting these?......I make sure that the fuse is the correct one etc.......

Any help appreciated again...... :thumbsup

If that was my car I'd have put a bigger fuse in by now....*

A bigger fuse will still offer some protection from wiring shorts, but the fuel pump will not be protected if it gets stuck, etc.
The bigger fuse will merrily supply it enough current to fry itself.

Its a worry that it keeps blowing but....

The Landrover has had a bolt in place of a fuse since around 1990 when the twig covered in fag packet foil (Circa 1985) burned out, but that only has one fuse and the electrics are a fair bit more agricultural...

I will get the b****y thing running and then look at it in a year

On a serious note it does need thinking about. Probably part of the rest up programme. :thumbsup
