new VX owner....

Post by L111CHT » Mon Sep 29, 2008 9:49 pm

hello abody,

picked up a new toy at the weekend :D it's a silver VX220, NA, 2001, 67k FSH, one owner from new, every old bill and MoT, leather seats, factory CD, mats, footrest, fogs. even has the original bill of sale for £24-odd grand. All recalls have been done and it's got two brand new rear wheels. completely standard by the looks of it. fresh MoT and tax to boot!

drives great, will take a bit of getting used to. ok, I expected it to be noisy and it is (can't hear the exhaust tho  ) some bubbling to the rear (esp round the exhausts) and few chips and scratches here and there. to be expected.

one thing though, it leaks like a bloody sieve. I've got a 17-year-old mx5 which is like a duck's arse when it comes to letting in water. I think I need new Lotus seals?
it's also been sitting for a while and the disks/calipers are very scruffy. is it worth putting grooved/drilled ones on? seem them on the fleabay for just over £100...

oh yeah and did my first (heater) mod thanks to a pair of the gf's old tights :thumbsup

:welcome from a former VX owner! My (2003) VXT never leaked, I think the turbo seals are better than the NA ones. I kept with the standard discs, but upgraded the pads to Mintex 1144s, they made a big difference over the standard pads.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

:welcome from another ex VX owner - the turbo seals practically stop all leaking and i'd give another :thumbsup for the mintex 1144 pads - had them on mine and they were a lot better than standard, i also had upgraded brake hoses which helped a lot as well :)

Enjoy the car
