Timing belt
Timing belt
Hi all, just been quoted £410 to get my timing belt changed on my non VVC S2 from MMC Edinburgh, seems a bit steep to me, are there any garages in the Grampian area who have experience of Elise engine work that will be cheaper?
Failing that might be tempted to do it myself, will it be possible to do it without a pit? and is it worthwhile using a piper competition cambelt?

Does sound a bit steep. It's only a Rover after all. I would have a look at DIYing it, but then again I'm an enthusisastic spanner monkey! Have a look at the service manual.

I was only £180 at Autoquick on Langstracht although I supplied the belt, tensioner and my own locking tool. £240 in total. Mind you when I phoned them for a quote for my steering rack, they told me that they would have to look into it after being badly burnt the last time they worked on an elise. So maybe that price has gone up now...

That's for a C service, which includes the belt, but also lots of very complicated stuff (like changing the oil and having a yank at the suspensionGibby wrote:Isnt that quite a good price really?
I thought Lotus were near enough £1000 for this after VAT ?

Belt on it's own shouldn't be anywhere near that.
