I have noticed that when I try and start my car I need two or three attempts before the starter motor will spin the engine. I put the key in the ignition, press the button on the key, the red light on the dash goes out, but I just get a "clunk" from the starter motor. Repeat this a couple of times and then everything then seems to work.
I have an early S2 elise with a K series 120bhp engine.
Could it be that I need a new battery in my key, or could there be something up with the sensor or anything else electronic, or is the problem with the starter motor ? I have tried to use my spare key, and it all worked first time, but don't know if this is just a co-incidence.
Any suggestions welcome.

Re: Key wont start car
Continue to use the spare key - if it works 10 times on the trot, revert to original key - if it starts playing up, you have your answer.
Before doing anything re: changing batteries in key fobs be sure you've read your owners manual and understand the procedure and have the rekey-ing code (if required).
Don't rely on information posted on the internet because not all elise alarm/immobiliser systems are the same (there are at least 5 models that I know of) and they each have a different procedure for battery changing.
Cheers,
Robin
