Warning for road at Lochfyne in Edinburgh

Post by Mel » Wed Oct 22, 2008 1:23 pm

Was driving past loch fyne last night (where the peacock is) on the lower granton road (i think) on the side of the road as if u were driving to seafield. Just at the traffic lights infront of loch fyne...there is a hooj big crater (not pot hole) on the road. It looks like the tarmac that has been laid has fallen in on itself. theres no warning signs and since it was dark..i never seen it and totally hit it....scraped the bottom of my car...raging! stopped and went back and took a photo..the hole is literally if u put ur foot in it half way up ur calf or even more. Just a warning to anyone who drives this way to try aviod that road till its fixed.

Nasty - worth popping into CLCM in Sighthill and making sure the wheels are all still pointing in the right direction :(

Worst case, it might have cracked something like a cup in the steering rack. Although, that's fixable for £28 in parts, if you know someone who can spanner it :)

Probably just knocked something out of line - get it checked out (and keep the invoice to claim the council - especially armed with the photos) as if it's badly out of line, it'll kill tyres as well as feeling awful.

Look all over it as some parts are designed to bend (the cheap* bits) and can we see the pictures?

I claimed against South Lanarkshire Council last year - new rim, new tyre and full geo check. IIRC came to £500 ish. Claimed in June - they paid out in November and they deducted what they considered to be an 'acceptable amount taking into account fair wear and tear' - pay out was £300

Which you should have protested, given that you have a fastidiously maintained road/track car  F**kers will always try to weasel out, it's up to you to not let them :thumbsup

I did think about haggling , but as both rear tyres were due to be replaced anyway and taking into account the SE discount ( which wasn't on the submitted invoice), I wasn't too much out of pocket :D . That and the fact that I really couldn't be bothered with a further extensive exchange of correspondance with their solicitors, I just took the money offered.
