K16 Cylinder Head, Standard air box, Standard gearbox
K16 Cylinder Head, Standard air box, Standard gearbox
I have a completely standard K16 cylinder head that I removed from my car when I fitted the PTP kit. Good for porting or more likely to replace a cheese head.
I have the standard plastic plenum and airbox if anyone wants one of them. Cannot think that you would need this, but you never know!
I have a completely standard S1 gearbox (normal "long" 5th).
Offers for any of it welcome.

DON'T PORT A STANDARD HEAD!!!! THEY ARE CHEESE!!!
Hold out for a VVC head or the like - better port shape/sizes to begin with and you'll never get the most hairily ported standard casting to flow as much as a standard VVC....
But if you must whittle at something for practise.....

VVC head is currently £67 + £20 p&p with 2 days to go, bet it'll got for £200+. Problem with VVC being that I would then need either a VVC mech conversion (Pricy) or all the ECU/Inlet manifold/loom/etc gubbins.
As you said, something to whittle away the hours....
The idea would probably (Assuming it's a high port) is to play around with it to see what I can achieve and if it's within my capability. Should have said the head is without valaves, cams or followers (Got cam ladder) then I would look for a head to actually look at using with all the bits.
Might even have a look at getting the head sectioned in workshops so I can judge how far I can push things before breaking through. It's an old casting though so more dairy milk than wispa
(Hence probably a low port...)

Good points one and all, I just wouldn't waste the time and money on working with a standard head with a view to fitting one. There's almost no doubt it'll go pop IMO. If it's just to practise techniques, then absolutely
VVC head + blanking kit (ITRO £120) is pricey, but much less pricey than a standard head going porus every 5 minutes

The funny thing is there is a complete VVC with a buy it now of £450. Bunch of muppets!
29k miles, crashed MG-TF. Do you still have that inlet manifold? Hmmmm....
No I don't realy want to swop out my K, but for £450 (+ECU +Inlet +Loom?) it's got to be a possibility for someone.

Actually, looking at fleabay, you'd need to whack on your starter & alt too, and I didn't see the stat piping, so that'd need to go on it. Tenner says that the coils are also missing. <edit> He's stripped them and is selling them too!
You'd need to buy an ECU (plus matched immobliser unit, if it was the standard ECU) and loom (which was a real pain to track down) plus get leads & gaskets & all the little ancilliaries. Would end up costing a bomb.

All I need is a breakers with an MGTF

I really don't have the space and with only my Liz I would be immobile until completed. Not an option really. (Honest) Maybe when I move in with the g/f in 6 months, she'll like that ()
My flea bay head arrives this week, that'll give me something to do...
