The Elise was timed in torrential rain. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_in_a_ ... Power_Laps

Great episode though, one of the best.

I got to look around one when I was in Italy they are nice - much better value than the Mini. It also looked quite good around the track - no roll etc.

The wikii times made interesting reading.

Ellen MacArthur was the fastest Star ever and only 0.4 secs slower than Damon Hill.

Stig 2 was 1.4 secs faster than Stig 1 and quicker than any of the racing drivers.

Jennifer Saunders is third fastest out of 41 in the new car.

I think the early power lap times were set on a slightly different track layout that added a second or two to the time which accounts for the stig 1 & 2 times.

I think it was 94 days, still impressive but she came 2ND in the race. :?
Typical brits applauding a LOSER...

Is it right that she gets massive media hype just 'cos she's a woman?
If it'd been bloke with the same result he wouldn't have made the news. Anyone heard of Mike Golding?

The Liana did not have a roll cage fitted in the first few programs of the first series - when the orig Stig set his (or its!) lap time. Wouldn't be surprised if stiffening the chassis with a cage shaved a chunk of time off.

Harry Enfield on the very first episode, sans-cage.... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0poP09DnzvM

That's the race car on slicks vs a road car on road tyres is it not?

Tyres. Caparo was on road tyres and the DBR9 is a full house GT racer on slicks. Plus, Caparo was prototype with a poor setup, DBR9 is about as race-tested as you get.
