Hi guys, just back from my trip offshore. Now have decided im for a 111r, although have been looking at a few exiges latelly.

Anyone with experience of having owned an elise and exige or even just an exige? Are they alot more expensive to run than the elise? Should hopefully be going up to garage at the weekend and get a test drive in both.

Also hoping with us supposably being in a recession and the current market that i should be able to get a fare whack off the advertised price paying with cash. Anyone any experience buying from a garage lately and getting good deals?

Any major pointers on stuff i should be looking out for? Have read up on the cars, though cant really see anything major to look out for besides crash damage.

Also with buying private and getting an inspection done on the car, will an AA inspection be suitable with a lotus or would i be better with an inspection at a lotus garage or elsewhere?

Thanks in advance for replies, sorry about all the questions.

Had 3 Elises and on an Exige (all S2)... So here goes...

Elise is a great car - roof off being the best part.

Exige looks better IMHO but miss the roof-off-ability (although it does come off but doesnt look right to me)..

Running costs - the same...

Prices just now - Most people have reduced them massively already so I doubt you'd get a whole lot more off them unless you find someone desperate. Garages will probably give you some cash off though - as they are a lot more expensive than private sales at the moment and therefore will move more.

Inspection - Phone Ali at Scottish Lotus Specialists (do a search you'll get his details) and he'll come out give the car a once over for you.

HTH.

Lewis :thumbsup

Bear in mind that they (111R and standard Exige) are exactly the same car, mechanically. The Exige has stiffer suspension and stickier tyres, but that's it. The only cost difference will be to keep it shod with the expensive and short-lived A048 tyres, but a lot of people change those if using it over winter, or as an everyday car.

Not just saying this cause I have one - but some people need to get a grip when it comes to de-valueing their our pride and joys.. In the industry I'm in - there is nothing worse than people making the market worse than it is by panic selling. Soon as a few muppets undervalue then every know-it-all gets on their high horse about paying any more than "the one that went for cheaper last month.."

N/A Exiges are currently sitting between 17-21k private. Be quick for the cheaper ones :thumbsup

The chap I bought my S1 from said he could get S2 exiges for 15k, and that was a year ago, No doubt he could get them for 13k now.
