Couple more photo's of the near finished head. Rog has peaned out the corrosion and given the head a light skim. Pictures are of the finished ports/seating/chambers. Looking good, not long now.

As Jordan would say, that's what you call a head job.

Was looking through all the stuff I've got for building the engine, ticking boxes as it were and couple of things came to mind. I've got the sealant for the cam and crank ladder/sump that being the glupe for Geary which is GGC106 equivalent but I don't have anything for the liners. Is it just hylomar blue or is there some other sealant for the liners. Also I have cam lub for install the cams but was wondering what would be best for the crank, normally I have just made sure it's well oiled but have read that some engine builders use low friction moly lub until the oil pressure gets up and lubs the bearing journals, anybody any thoughts or experience of this.

I am pretty sure that in the Stevie weegie rebuild thread we concluded the liner sealant was indeed a hylomar blue ... you could always pop DVA or Kiwi rog a note, or check Seloc tech wiki for the answer.

The trade off with cam and crank is that the cams hate being run at low speed whilst running in, but the crank wants pressure from the off.

As a compromise I would remove spark plugs and crank until oil pressure light goes out (with no compression there is almost no load on the crank anyway). Then whack in the spark plugs and an ECU that will allow you to run at 2K RPM for 15 minutes to get the cam lobes run in.

Of course if you can be bothered you can do the initial run in of the bottom end with any old cylinder head/cams, then swap to your new head next.

Do you think you have the ECU side of things sorted well enough to be able to g 2K fast idle from the off? You really don't want to be trying to get some initial mapping done before the cams are bedded in.

Cheers,
Robin

Haven't crossed that bridge yet. Hoping it's a case of e-mailing Dave Walker and giving him the engine spec and him e-mailing back a base map. Not like I'm in uncharted territory here, pretty much everything has been done before so they should have something that is pretty close to what I need.
But like you said it's the first few minutes that will determine if the engine build is a success, getting everything bedded in properly is vital, hence it's first start up will be on a RR to run the engine under load from the off. After that hopefully have a drivable map and put 500 miles on it before starting the serious mapping. That's the plan anyway.

My god, its a monster  8)

Looking very good Mike :thumbsup

I can 100% confirm that the GGC106 sealant is indeed blue hylomar - i got a tube from unipart with the correct ggc106 code for about 3 quid.

The exhaust valves are originals, the inlets are Rog's own.

But there's 2 styles of exhausts... Guess it had some replaced at some stage?

According to Rog one set is oem and one set are Ae replacements. Engine has had some head damage in it's deep dark past.

Steve :thumbsup will source some when I get home again. Away tomorrow for 3 weeks so, as last time once I get home I will resurrect this thread.

Head will be here when I get home, shipping this week :thumbsup

ToDo list:
Source new exhaust manifold (need one with longer secondaries, so possibly for sale, one Janspeed 40mm manifold, flexi and back box.)
Dry build (I think it's a given that the pistons will need machining  )
Engine balance.
Engine build.
Complete oil cooler install.
Install PRRT
Quick shifter.
Finish wiring for engine and datalogger.
Install oil pressure & temp gauges.
Install AFR gauge (if santa is good to me)
Make up shift lights.
Extra switch gear for data logger, TC & LC.
Install rack riser plates.
Order new springs for dampeners.
Geo
Map
Front clam to paint.
