This is some fantastic kit you've got yourself!! Only thing missing is the "tear gas button"

Re: DIY CCTV for your Lotus
My guess is that the weird thing captured on these images is the like of a moth flying past the lens doing about 7 wing flaps per frame......

. . . . a bat I think. The high inter-frame compression has been fooled by the high speed and small size resulting in multiple image. For caterham 7 owners . . . . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_compressionMichael wrote:My guess is that the weird thing captured on these images is the like of a moth flying past the lens doing about 7 wing flaps per frame......

Sick of stoodents moving in to my block. Was looking at a house today, 30% deposit though ...
Anyways CCTV this week caught the following chap and his shifty mate who walked up to the camera, got their photo taken smashed down the camera and then nicked a motorbike from the garage. Not the cleverest.

Reviewing last nights footage it looks like the stoodents like to play table tennis at 4am. Also looks like the bird is not strong enough to hold the table when it falls off the kerb ON TO THE 340! Words will be had

Where the hell are you parking the 340? - in the young offenders detention centre

Sanjoy.
I have already posted, but I find this set-up absolutely stunning.
how much do you reckon it would cost to set this up from scratch with 3 or 4 cams?

Sanjoy, - Cracking system etc, etc.... However - pic quality isn't the best - Would a pixelised image hold up in a court of Law?
I remmeber 10 years ago buying a B&W CCTV camera from B&Q & pointed it at my car from my front porch window.
I linked it straight to my VCR - a 4 hr VHS tape on LP - giving me 8 hours of footage - I couldnt make out who the people were near the car.
Can you buy a "hi-res" camera ?

Two negatives make a positive but only in Scotland do two positives make a negative - 'Aye right.'

Re: DIY CCTV for your Lotus
All depends on what you put in to it, these are <£5 webcams. I think that the "Lotus" cam is a bit more as it is a logitech 5000 camera.
Frame rate is low as is some of the image qual as I have turned it down as the CPU was maxing out on the puter as there are 5 cameras on the system now. Been meaning to either upgrade the cheap Dell P4 or put in two cheap machines with teh cameras hanging off them.
The system will also take a usb type video capture card so you can plug in normal cameras with a video out, so the low light cameras you see on ebay would work a treat, add in one of the IR lamps and job done.
So costs well I had all the kit sitting abotu doing nothing so it was free, the software starts at £139 for 2 cameras.
Now I think about it I am probably going ot have a dedicated machine for the entry cameras that are the highest possible res so that the rozzers can work with the evidence and the rest are peripheral for capturing what they are doing once in and identified.

Re: DIY CCTV for your Lotus
fair play to you, but by the looks of things it would be easier to move than to try and take this to court/get the police to do anything about these scumbags.
Re: DIY CCTV for your Lotus
I was hoping it was more of a deterrant, lots of signs up. Looks like it does not stop the scum. Agreed that now I know what is happening down there more I worry more / check the footage each morning Sat / Sun when checking my mail.
Rozzers have been pretty helpful before and recognise the "bad kids" and have a qord with them when they see them next, courts are not worth the time for <18 yrs old. Prob not worth it for >18yrs but that is another thread.
It is worth it for having word with stoodent neighbours though!

Re: DIY CCTV for your Lotus
would it be possilbe to set it up so if they touch any part of your car they will get an almighty shock? much be worth looking into
takes alot of balls to do that and go into private car parks. the most I would do is admire the vehicle. because people might even get pissy about photos appearing up all over the place.

Re: DIY CCTV for your Lotus
Sanjoy,
Are the current cameras noticable? (i.e. are they small)
The pic of the one with the LEDs - surely people will notice that?
Is the whole point of it trying to catch them without them realising there is a camera recording them?
If they realise this - they start wearing hoodies & masks etc..
David
PS - Go for it - buy the hi res cameras - i'm sure the SE'rs will have a whip round...>!
