Does not make it OK - it wasnt even excusable on the basis that its a sh*t newspaper. Only saw it as it was linked from the PH Lambo forum and now wish I hadnt read it, for some reason its really fcuked me off. I think its the want to blame the driver because they have the money to enjoy cars, and that cars are bad, especially expensive ones.

They (the papers) dont do it when Davey McSpudhead from C-milk bins his sh1tey corsa into a phonebox at the end of the EK to Hamilton bypass on a summers eve, so why do it to someone who it seems had a genuine accident?

"Charred £100 notes" and "batman car" were the icing.

I'll agree with you there.

Look at any news websites on a Monday morning and chances are a fatality will be mentioned in a one-liner report. This one has irritated me as well, all the car forums have it mentioned. Tragedy as it is, this boys life is no greater loss because he was driving a 'luxury sports car' than someone crashing a Corsa. Meantime his death should not be exploited because of the car he was driving.
I view the insinuations, quotes and reporting as utterly disgusting. Daily Record tops the poll of offensiveness, not for the first time.

The Record are cretins of the highest order. I've seen them use the same low standards quite a number of times previously with regard to people I know or who are known to me.

The long and short of it is they are hemmoraging money and readership and can't see past sensationalism (which patently isn't working) as a way out of it.




It's a sad loss of life no matter what the circumstances.


ETA: As regards Bebo & Facebook and google et al, if you do anything or anything happens to you to interest them, these are the first and last resort of the modern journalist; you won't have a say in what pictures they print or what they mis-quote.

I have just read the report on the Daily Record website and it makes me sick - complete fantasy journalism, with no thought for the family atall.

He used to post on the MLR. I had heard the Daily Record were trying to dig up some stuff on him by phoning round.

I think in this day and age we have to be carefull of what we 'say' on the forums and facebook etc. It could come back to haunt you. And even used as evidence like in the 10p short situation.

Its no secret Gush loved fast cars, but the way the Record reported was aimed at stirring up people's stereotyped views, rather than reporting on a very sad accident.

The Daily record report is a another classic case of the papers digging dirt when they hear about an accident involving a high performance or enthusiasts car. They troll the forums, and then mis quote anything they can get their hands on to sensationalize a story. The other classic case is the guy on Pistonheads who ended up in the nick when he lost control of his Honda type r, and badly injured a biker. Quotes from the Honda forum were read out in court, and beforehand had been written about in the papers.

Because of it he was perceived to be a "boy racer" and hooligan in his car, and all this probably had a lot to do with his sentence.

We must all remember that Scottish Elises is a very public forum. ANYBODY can read it, plod, reporters and all, and it is not too difficult to link online names to real names and cars etc.

This will probably open up the old chestnut of the discussion about whether prospective members should be "vetted" by the moderators before being allowed to join. If this vetting process took a good few days, it would prevent casual journalists etc form getting material to blow up to be instant dirt if anybody has an accident.

Worth thinking about every time we are tempted tp post about speed, runs, etc!

Agree with everything Paul, and I have said it before, but I cant see why the forum isnt totally closed to "guests" viewing, like so many forums are.

I think Mass an jj have a point but on the other hand cant whoever just join to get whatever info their after or could it be seperated into a new guests and members area ? Over so many posts gives you access into the members part?
Or would this just make it harder for people to get genuine info and advice?
Anyway prob not the best thread to start a debate on this topic.
