What height are you?
That wont give the correct reach to the handle bars

I remember a fad a few years ago, where the thing was to buy a frame that was too small and then put a big layback post and even a longer stem on them to basically make the bike more manoeuvrable (short wheelbase, lighter)

Not sure what the current thinking is?

I have been reliably informed that you are best to have the correct sized frame. Extending the stem will only result in upsetting the steering of the bike (making like a canal barge). IMHO

I wasn't talking about 'correct' though mate, just a fad that happened several years back. I take it discredited now.

Shug- I prefer a smaller frame for what I use it for, mine is just 14" and Im 6ft 2. Makes it more throwable and stronger

I'm 5'11'' and all of my frames have been 16'' - far more chuckable when heading downhill. Also never liked stems longer than 40mm as you could get appreciable flex between bars and steerer on the really rough stuff (tho' that was with a 20mm thru-axle).

Only just browsed this thread.

Fascinated to read http://www.evanscycles.com, they must list every MTB made topped by the Scott Genius LTD 2009 at £7,100, the price of an S1.
