Re: Recommendations for spring rates
Approval has now been given by the race team financial director for full nitron "hoffmans" spec to be fitted to the car. Thanks in no small part the wise words of advice given on here.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....
Re: Recommendations for spring rates
I'll give a full update when I get my car back. I'll only be picking it up some time in May as I'm out the country untill then.tenkfeet wrote:ABZ-Elise wrote:To long!! I had a numb ass by the time I got there. About 11 hours in total I think. Could have done it a bit quicker but due to bad road conditions and 888's I had to keep slow.![]()

Thats dedication to the cause .
I would be interested to hear how it feels afterwards.

Only problem with that is I'd have to pay for it sooner
but I might need to take up on that offer if my trip starts to drag out and I get delayed.

Had this problem last year - and the boat bringing the new batch got held up so no-one got fresh Khumo's in time for the season opener last year.

Just off the phone to Randy.. 550/750 recomended, helper springs all round.
Also managed to sell me a set of sintered metal pads with balanced friction to bias the brakes perfectly
Also a TPMS... (gadget) that he has been running all year. get the tires right and that 90% of your set up done.
I was in at Falkland today as well asking about geo. Randy has offered to discuss with Falkland directly the best set set up for the Elise for "short track" use.

Re: Victors Mutterings part 1
Very confussed now with tyres.. From my conversation with Chris Randle, the "Hofmann's" spec dampers are optimised for Yokohama tyres. He believes that 888's are very similar but the Kumho's have a slightly different construction but should be close enough to be effectivly the same.
So do I go for 48's or 888's in the correct Lotus size which are listed in the Blue book as a 1b tyre, or the Kumho's V70A's which dont come in 195 fronts and aint listed in the Blue book but the manufacturer says are legal?
Doing ma head in...

Re: Victors Mutterings part 1
If the tyres aren't listed it doesn't matter what the manufacturer says, it matters what the scrutineers say (I think!). I would go for something that is in the book and then I would go for whichever of these tyres is softest as you're only doing short stints on track and the car is very light.
Can you use any compound, or does the book list specific compounds that are allowed.
Cheers,
Robin

Re: Victors Mutterings part 1
The Khumo's listed are marked with an * so they can be removed/replaced from the list at some point in 2009 - it could be that the V700 are predecesors to the V70A - check on the MSA website or drop them a line.
On the 7 I can't get enough heat into soft A048's on a run, maybe different in the elise with a bit more weight?

Re: Victors Mutterings part 1
Surely if the suspension set up by Randy is specifically for 048s that's the tyre to go for?? If it were me I'd be sticking to what the professionals recomend especially if they're setting the rest of the suspension up...
Best get on the blower for a set of 048s and some uprated rear toe links before your geo???
All the best

Re: Victors Mutterings part 1
Toe links from Elise shop are sitting in a box in the back room, Chris Randlle also gave me some advice on these regarding the bump steer curve. For the set up I will be running you want more toe in under compression than normal.mwmackenzie wrote:Surely if the suspension set up by Randy is specifically for 048s that's the tyre to go for??
