Painted our brake calipers

Post by dezzy » Mon Apr 06, 2009 12:09 am

I did this on my old Elise and although some people think it's a bit chav, the standard calipers on the Elise and Exige are damn ugly . . . it's amazing what a wee bit of paint can do to spruce them up and highlight the "Lotus" lettering on them :D

So, Heather and I have painted our calipers. I went for black with silver lettering to match my black badges on the car, and Heather obviously had to have yellow lettering 8) :D

Before . . . ugly grey dull metal:

After (ignore the masking tape I hadn't yet removed)

And Heather's, with her lettering to match the car 8)

There's a caliper paint kit you can get in Halfrauds. It used to be about £20 but got it for £5. It includes caliper cleaner spray, paint and hardner. Enough to do front and rear calipers on both of our cars. Then used a wee touch of silver and yellow hammerite for the lettering.

I say, if you have the time, you should absolutely go ahead and enjoy that sort of thing. Quite therapeutic I imagine, in fact. Once upon a time, I would have ;-) Well done Dezzy and Heds.

Your first post on this for your Elise inspired me to clean mine up and paint up in dark grey. But then I remembered I had two kids and a working wife and somehow the washing etc just got in the way

Perhaps I'll put this on the list for 2009 Winter Maintenance tho!

The calipers look much better painted.

Painted calipers are actually an optional extra on the 2 eleven and you don't get much change out of £500

Could be a lucrative little sideline for you there Dezzy

I dont see anything wrong with painted calipers on a decent car either tbh  its not like painting "power drums".

I will be doing mine soon too and will probably go for black, anything is better than the way they are just now.

The scary thing is the "to-do" list is growing day by day   , still need to do my grills, get wheels coated, spray the front clam, fit the new driving lights, get new sill pads and look at a retrim/fix for the wear on the seats  , not bad for a car i was not going to do anything to  :thumbsup

Yellow works for me, might go white on the 340 ;)

Worth refurbing your calipers prior to doing them, extra 30 mins per caliper...
