revs sticking

Post by undone » Wed Apr 08, 2009 8:35 pm

I seem to only have daft questions to ask on here but I have to ask somewhere!

Just noticed while driving around today in my S2 that whenever i dip the clutch the revs drop to about 1500, stick for a second or two then eventually drop down to a normal tick over.

Any suggestions? Or is this something I've just not noticed before - I don't think even I could have been that unobservant tho...

cheers.

IACV possibly. Seem to get a bit clogged up and need taken out cleaned and poped back in. From memory its only like 2 or 4 torx take it out spray brake cleaner then turn your key 2 clicks so electrics are on but car not starting and hold the top so it doesnt pop right off but moves up a bit spray spray good shake out and see if that solves the problem :cheers

What car do you have , Toyota or K series ? On the k series cars the idle is higher when on the move , think about 1200 rpm . Don't know if the Toyota engined cars have the same feature at a different rpm.

Depends on which S2 you have, the location on an early K is the same although the shape is slightly different, but with a clear and concise photo like that you wouldn't go far wrong.

Thanks very much for the replies...

It's a toyota engine, '57 plate, S2. It's still under warranty...I'm not the most technically minded (the picture and description were a big help so thanks s29ttc- I might just take it back and see what they say - I just didn't want to be taking it back for no real reason.

Question - is it still moving, then dropping idle as you come to a halt?

If so - don't take it back, they all do that. It's part of the mapping. Nothing to do with an idle valve.

makes no odds - on stop or coasting same issue..

maybe it's just me picking up on it now - the more i drive the more annoying it is because i know what the engine tone's going to do!
