insurance claims NLC

Post by bigrichi » Sun Apr 12, 2009 11:28 am

Hi Folks,
I need some advice regards making an insurace claim.
Me and the missus went out a nice chilled sunday style drive yesterday up towards Crianlarich and ended up having a fender bender with a VW transporter.
We're both fine and have reported the accident to the insurance company.
However, the garage that the insurance company want to take the car to be assessed isn't the greatest. Have had family members who have had a nightmare with them, bad service, average work and not keeping to time schedules.

any experienced claimers out there can say if we're allowed to choose where we take the carto be assessed/repaired?

cheers for any advice

Richi

You can choose the garage....you may have to get extra quotes though.
Good luck and glad you're both ok.

You can use who ever you want . The insurace assesor did have to come out . Only one quote was required.

If I had the miss fortune to have an accident again , I would be prepared to transport it to a good repairer down South .

cheers guys,
i thought that was the case but wanted to check before speaking to the insurance company.
when we spoke to them yesterday they said that the garage would provide us with a courtesy car but the garage that we want to use doesnt usually provide one (afaik, but havent used them for a few years).

do you think as the policy covers providing a courtesy car that we could claim a hire car etc ??

Chances are you'll only get a courtesy car if you use your insurance companies preferred repairer - check the small print in your policy. Is it the Lotus thats damaged? How bad is the damage?

nah, dont have the Lotus anymore :(
but was driving the girlfriends.......sure you can imagine how popular i am now
was a 206......i'll get my flame suit.....CC

i'm gutted to say i ran into the back of somebody......which in my eyes is the most inexcusable kind of accident to have.
didnt run into them square on though.....couldnt slow down in time to stop.....tried to swerve to avoid but collided front passenger corner into rear drivers corner of other car.

wasnt travelling fast but collided with a VW transporter campervan

the bumper is damaged, headlight, wing and grill. the tyre is fooked and it looks like its pushed the wheel back in the arch so i expect some suspension damage too.

Bad luck! If you'd been in the Lotus you'd have stopped in time! Looks like you're stuck using either the insurers repairer or putting up without a car for a couple of weeks - I'd be tempted to pick something up cheap from the car auction and put it back in after
