Time Attack - Snetterton report and vids - End of season

Post by gambler » Wed Apr 15, 2009 12:07 pm

After being inspired by reading about BigD's experiences in Time Attack (http://www.timeattack.co.uk) I have decided to sign up for the 2009 season. Well, I have always had a problem confusing ambition for talent.

Track days have been great fun. I just think its now time for something more competitive. I really miss the buzz from the pressure of competition I used to get when I rowed internationally. It’s also important to throw yourself right out your comfort zone every now and then to see what you’re made off. I started to get the competitive buzz when I started doing auto testing last year. Tar and grass tests, I do prefer grass tests though as I don’t have the brain capacity to remember a tar course on a Sunday morning. At the end of year awards I was given the trophy for novice of the year by the south of Scotland car club. Lets hope that I wont be using my grass skills as ill be trying to avoid having all 4 wheels on the grass. 2 wheels are ok as anyone that has ever watched big d in action will know.

My car is currently putting out 400bhp which may sound a lot but ill probably be up to 150bhp down on some of the people in club class. Ill just have to try and make up the difference by taking hero flakes for breakfast. If that does not work, ill just have to stop being cheap and buy a turbo as big as my head! :D

I am now trying to get through the long list of things to do to the car before the 1st race of the season at Oulton Park on the 25th of April.

There will be 5 races in the series

25th April - Oulton Park
17th May - Knockhill
31st May - Silverstone
28th June - Brands Hatch
11th October - Snetterton

Big thanks to BigD for his help and advice and to ScottyC for sorting out some training at Walshys and Brands

The more the merrier............

Good to see you joining Don and having a go at it. As you say there is mega hp out there, the Wallace Performance Scooby that was at the last SIDC was putting out 730hp, but not sure if he competes.

That machine was unreal watching it coming out the hairpin and pulling 4/5 cars lines infront in a matter of seconds, the exhaust coming out the front bumper was a nice touch also.

I dont think that car will be competing. If they are, with a spec like that they would be in the new club pro class. The top drivers from club class last year were moved into the new class. I think with the new system bigD would have ended up in the top 3 in club class :thumbsup . The top cars in pro class are putting out close to 1000bhp. On toyo R888's

All the best with it Scott, I'll be watching the lap times with great interest.

I started the season with about 380bhp and still had a great time. It was good fun doing it on a really tight budget. I wanted to keep stock size turbo for the reliability aspect and that saw me through the season pretty well. I was driving to and from some of the events too so didn't want to get stranded.

No problem with the help and advice, didn't really do much tbh. Just give 'em hell!!

The whole experience is great fun and I treated it like that without getting to anal about anything. I loved the fact that when all the other teams were working on their cars and fiddling with this that and the other, I was standing around pitlane having a fag waiting on the next session!! I was there to drive afterall.

Good luck with it. :thumbsup
