Teams of 4?
Budget?
Events? ( BTW "SE go to speed sunday carnage" )
3 or 4 sounds good if everyone gets a chance to drive all events.
£500 sounds reasonable
Starting with points for most ridiculous car ie. boring shopping hatch for Mrs McGlumfer 0 points, shocking pink Cadillac with lots of chrome and pimped windows 10 points etc.
Road run, points off for breakdowns, target mileage.
Autotest

Someone will need to stand up as an Judge, with no ties to any of the teams

Use The AMP3 day as a finish date tie in a charity bonus

Stick fuel economy in as well for the road run.

I like the points for how odd a car you buy, is that before or after the pimpage with left over money?

I liked the endurance race section of the Top Gear grasstrack banger stuff.

I've thought about this before and thought that this would be fairly easy to judge. The cars only need to have a working trip/odometer.
A long endurance race (with everyone in the team getting a shot at driving) would test cars out very well. The team who's car covers the most miles according to the trip/odo wins. Any discrepancy in how accurate this is should just be taken as part of the fun context of the challenge.

Where to do this is a question though. It could be done on the open road with the obvious provisos of obeying traffic law.
Or how about hiring Crail for one of their allowed noisy days per year? But we'd have to see what rules we'd need to comply with.

ironside, the only problem i could see with doing it on the road is insurance, and risk to other drivers.

if its a race to see how many laps or so, then people may push it a bit too much, i think finding an empty field and asking the farmer or something similar.

The insurance could be a problem cause if i'm on it for road driving, it will be higher than some other teams and may even restrict the possible cars, whilst on a grass test or so that won't be a problem.

I like kenny's idea of £500 for the car then anything left over, on the mods.

I think the cars for charity would be a great idea.

£500 ! where's the challenge in that I could almost enter my elise :P

you can't have "racing" on the roads that opens you up to problems.

Big engines could cause problems with insurance, but there is that company who do daily or weekly insurance.

/off to look for a metro gti :D

Would need to make a call on

Mot and taxed cars only ? i..e road legal cars as opposed to turning up with a car on a trailer for events

Yup - sounds like some rules are needed, and we could do the finale at Amp3 tracknight, no probs :thumbsup

Sounds like a fun idea though, I think MOT would be a must, so we could have a mpg, or destination challenge?

Start date?
End date ?

Sounds like a couple of polls are needed to agree the t&c's and then on to the announcements to sign up the teams?
