Had a great weekend in the Elise. Covered about 570 miles on a run up to the top of Skye with a wee overnighter in the Three Chimneys. Unfortunately roof was on for most of it due to the localised, heavy showers on both days. Got fed up stopping and taking it on-off after the first couple of hours both yesterday and today. But 50 miles from home I pulled over and put it in the boot, to only travel 5 miles down the road and this to happen

:
Is this an MMC/Ali job or can you get one yourself and somehow fix it on ? A perspex version would be better if there is such an option.
No idea of cost so away to look at insurance policy to see if it windscreen cover means just that or covers glass generally in case it's needed.

Guessing it was the car in front flung up a stone that has done a David Beckham in clearing the windscreen (defence wall) before dipping and smashing the rear screen (goal).
Local farmer was great though ! I pulled into this farmhouse road end. He came out and asked if he could help. Set up an extension cable from his house and brought out a Dyson so I could hoover up all the shattered glass once I had knocked the rest out !

Reckon I'll be finding wee bits of glass for weeks.

Windscreen cover should cover all glass on the car. I dont think its the easiest of jobs to do so I'd be taking it to MMC and letting the insurance pay

Found this while looking for the foam that goes round the window for my car.
Doesnt say whether its for S1 or S2 so it probs fits both?

I had 2 X 6mm Perspex/Lexian screens made for £47 inc vat after being told 5 mm flexes
I'm guessing that S2's have the later rear window with the moulded plastic surround ~ Is it the same as an S1 ?
But if it is it would be easy enough to get one cut and all for less than the cost of your windscreen excess
If you do decide to go down the insurance repair route and it's the moulded plastic type rear window surround I'd be intrested in it if your not going to make use of it that is
I've got a couple of S1 screen's early and later versions here if you need to keep it weather tight until you get a repair sorted and providing they fit
let me know cheers Hamish 07766 513553

On the S2 it is a rear clam off job.Take it to MMC if insurance are paying .
Buy a bit of perspex from B and Q cut it to shape and place it over the screen. An essential item if out with a group of cars with sticky tyres. ( I forget who's original idea it was )
You will be finding bits of glass for
years.

S1 and S2 are different sizes DJ. After having two or more go in my S1's I fitted plastic ones. You never want to risk one going again especially if you are away for two weeks on a Stelvio.
You will need to take your seats out or you will never get rid of the glass.

Cheers for replies, info and links. Can't believe it's a clam-off job for this

. Was hoping to avoid using insurance co as I used to think glass claims were exempt. Found out when windscreen went on the the A4 a year ago that, yes they don't affect your NCB, but are recorded and taken into account for your next premium.
Tempted to go for that elise-shop lexan one but if glass, a wee bit of perspex cut and placed over the inside sounds a good idea tenkfeet.
Car is garaged Hamish so not bothered about keeping watertight, although Tut indicates it would be different from your S1 - but thanks for offer anyway.

We are fortunate, the rear screen just clips in, whereas yours is bonded.
With my last one I had the front windscreen crack and the rear screen exploding within a couple of days, so they went through as one claim with no problem.
