The XJ220 rocks. It's on my list of cars to get

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

Pal of mine just sold a high mileage mint one for £33k.GregR wrote:you're right. Dave's suggestion of a 993T could arguably be within the definition at circa £50k

Re: Your 'Investment Garage'
After flicking through Classic Cars mag at lunchtime.
Fiat 131 Abarth.
And
VX Chevette HSR
Lotus Sunbeam
Escort Mk1 RS1800
And I always loved the Lancia Hyena Zagato. (Zagato bodied Integrale basically)
I "thought" you could get them for £40k a few years ago, now oakfields have one for £105k

Oakfields is just sweetie shop stuff. 3 XJ220s for sale, a muira, MG SVs, and of course, an awesome Renualt 4 GTL.

Indeed you may think its fugly, but the threads about investment garage, not the prettiest cars in the world.Scottynic wrote:I'm sorry to say this but that is fugly! totally out of proportion IMO ofcourse.dlogan wrote: And I always loved the Lancia Hyena Zagato. (Zagato bodied Integrale basically)

I guess I liked it because it was rare, handbuilt, and had a Zagato badge, but I tend to like things that are handbuilt, and not just mundane run of the mill stuff that most of us have to run around in

But it does look a little crap at the back doesnt it

Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.
....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

That's one I just don't see to be honest. Or .. am I perhaps coming round as I type? A less popular bodied version of an extremely good chasis .. rarity .. more reliable engine ..Lazydonkey wrote:VX220![]()

Re: Your 'Investment Garage'
So, having mulled over all of the foregoing, I think I've come up with my 'Ideal Investment Garage' - presume all are mint:-
RS2
Clio Williams
Escort Cosworth Lux [small turbo model] I'm sure there was an option on the Lux to remove the tea tray spoiler. For rarity I'd have that one, but it just wouldn't be a Cosworth to me. I'll have the tea-tray specced please.
If my own rules allowed it, I would have a 993T but I'm of the view its too close to the 'exotica' tag. I'd have a 993 C2, manual for those once-every-5-year trips to Gleneagles
I think that would cover all of the necessary bases. I could easily think of another 10 cars to stick in the garage but I'd be duplicating effort - e.g. would you really need an R34 Skyline and a Cossie and an HF Integrale? I've chose the Cossie as the covers of my jotters in school were covered in my renderings of the beast.
So, I've got a sensible family/golf day wagon in the RS2. I've got a great wee B-road basher in the Williams. I've got presence and attitude in the Cosworth and I've got timeless class and elegance in the 993.
I think I'd be happy with that. A full garage for .. RS2 (15k for a decent one), Clio (3k for a decent one), Cossie (£20k) and 993 (£25k) .. the price of a new 911 C2! Not a bad deal, considering they're probably going to hold their value pretty well. Nobody mention crumbling seals, engine rebuilds and rust to shatter the illusion...

Re: Your 'Investment Garage'
More likely to make money on the garage itself than the cars in it, but in the spirit of disillusioned fantasy garages:
Cars I'd like to collect, but don't think they'd make any money:
288 GTO
Better than the F40
356 Speedster
Porn
Miura (shouty green colour)
Porn
Fiat 500
Not the new one, obviously
Chrome Orange S1
A really mint one on Konis and P Zeros
An unfettled 340R
Although I'd never be able to resist driving it
Buy to restore:
Old Minis
Lots of cheap bits, mechanically simple, cult status.
VW Camper
Likewise.
Buy and leave alone to appreciate:
Sinclair C5
Very scarce. No rust issues. Cash in on congestion zones and obesity in a few years.
XJ200
I expect this to just about hold its value, but by parking it next to the C5, I can make the C5 look like a successful engineering venture and thus it will appreciate quicker
Any current/recent Le Mans car
In 20 years when they are classic, you get to show them off and drive them hard once a year, but they still go up in value.
