You'll easily save enough money to pay for the trip this way. :-)

:damnfunny Think ive got most of the above covered already.
Yes, it's called sarcasm. Or is it irony. Can never remember which is which - I'm sure Tut will be along in a moment to explain the difference. Also I forgot to mention that if you follow Benny around, you should have free food most evenings ;-) (sorry Benny)

Cheers,
Robin

What, and in doing so you'll save enough cash to go on FF!?!. Judging by how much I spent on the last one before I even went, you would have to have a serious Jaguar edible knickers habit

Campbell, thank you. So was it sarcasm, or was it irony? I'll leave it as an exercise for the students on the list ... ;-)

Cheers,
Robin

sh*t! Tyre quota will be doubled! I'm in for this! Typical the info pops up the only day I'm not online! Sounds like a "best of the best" trip. Come on SE lets get an even bigger contingent. The mule will be rebuilt during the winter in prep for this :)

Get your tool kit ready Robin.

Done what I can this end, all wishbone bushes, balljoints, Randys Nitrons, track rod ends, ARB bushes changed, two wheel bearings, two to go, new radiator last year, new uprated gear cables, complete new LH driveshaft assembly last year from Sinclaires, same again going on the right after the rebuild, and spare S/C belt.

Do I need to change all the hubs and flanges as well?

Two years ago at Charade there were many S1 cars with loose wheel bearings at the end of the day - these became less loose by breakfast as it had all cooled down, but no doubt there was damage to all those bearings from running loose.

If you plan on running on sticky tyres at Charade I think you have to consider more-or-less race prep, or limit your track time to 20 minutes per hour - ish. On road tyres I think it'll be OK all day long provided you don't do a lot of drifting or hit the kerbs very hard (a lot of the kerbs at Charade are rough).

Tut, you should certainly measure the flanges on N3 while it's in bits - check for taper and replace if there is any; if you do replace them, it's probably cost effective to replace them with Geary's parts, but don't leave it until the last minute because there might be a run on them :-) Also, if you are ordering them please remember to get the standard length wheel studs, not the standard fit extended wheel studs which are for 340R style wheels.

Also you should think how many wheel bearings have been used on each upright - not sure if Cowan had to change any before you got the car. If it's just one or two, the uprights are probably OK still; if you're on your 10th bearing I would consider swapping the upright. I cannot now remember if N3 has alloy or steel uprights at the rear - if swapping I would swap to steel at the rear (I'm pretty sure you can use either though you may need to replace the lower balljoint if you cannot get it to split nicely from the old plinth). The front uprights are always alloy and I don't think you can switch to steel uprights as the calipers won't fit. If you're thinking about replacing the front hubs, you should consider whether it's more cost effective to buy second hand ones (who knows the true history of these), new ones from Lotus (used to be reasonably priced, but now a lot more expensive I think) or new ones from Eliseparts (will last a long time but probably very expensive).

Cheers,
Robin

Thanks Robin. Both N1 and N3 are '96/'97 cars, so alloy uprights. Just checked the spec from Cowan when I bought the car. All the following were changed in 2006 by Rich when the conversion was done:-

Nitron suspension rebuilt
New steering column
New steering rack
4 x brake callipers reconditioned
Ali bell disks
Battery
All wheel bearings and ball joints
Powerflex wishbone bushes

Full service history invoices, one previous owner, car never tracked. That was probably the first time the wheel bearings were changed. Cowan only really used the car for commuting and did a couple of European holidays in it.
However will get Mike and Alan to measure the flanges and check for taper. Hubs complete with bearings used to be £80 from Lotus, but that was probably a mistake and they banged them up

tut.

Totally agree with Robin - charade is a car killer, but simply AWESOME.

Mas Du Clos less so, although the Mule would beg to disagree with me on that

Ledenon - favours the lightweight, and is a rollercoaster ride :thumbsup

2 FF's a year - the girlfriend is unamused, but hey ho :damnfunny :cheers

I'm sure we could "have a word", but you'd need a car - the Vanquish wont take this :cheers

Paul, provided you've done either Oulton or Cadwell with LOT and haven't crashed (or at least, they don't remember you crashing/being black flagged) you will be OK - pretty sure you've done at least one Cadwell (hung over, possible minor offage, but it was wet ;-)), so you should be OK. It's just no-novices, not no-FF-novices I think.

Cheers,
Robin

Get a few trackdays in at KH Clark, then hopefully Oulton/Cadwell, you have already been out with me and an Instructor, do the same with Robin and perhaps McApe, and Paul will take that on board.
