Dragged out shopping with the current Mrs Boag and the Boag girls to the shopping malls of Las Americas
There were a few jewellers selling the usual "tax free - but not profit free" watches

New stainless daytonas were available for list price
Full range of Panerai/AP/Breguet/Hublot/Cartier/Graham/IWC

Thought I was unshockable when it comes to watch bling, but Rolex have taken it to new levels to satisfy the questionable tastes of the Russians

How about a Gold Daytona with the following spec
Leopard skin effect face
Gold bezel set with alternating yellow/black diamonds
Leather Strap (reputed to be frogskin) crafted to look like leopard skin

Price on application

As Boney M once sang on their memorable song Rasputin

Oh .......Those Russians!

Spotted one of the leopard-face datejusts when I was in Marbella last year in an ADs window - £35k from memory .

Lottery win watch - would be worth it for the comedy value alone

Well, I never thought I'd contribute to this thread, but here we go:

An Omega Speedmaster Professional Mechanical. I know sod all about it, but it's very slim and I liked the look of it. I believe it's a 1960s design that hasn't changed much since. It narrowly beat a Tag Carrera which was also rather nice but wasn't as comfortable and looked a bit 'sporty' next to the Speedy.

Happy day for me! :)

Good work, I really liked the Omega I had albeit mine was a Seamaster. Solid choice.

Good to know, thanks, but it's a keeper. Nor do I intend to start collecting a watch for ever occasion, so I reckon it's a good choice as an all-rounder. Not too bling to wear with jeans and t-shirt, but not too sporty/military to wear with a suit either. It was an impulse buy, but a rather lucky choice I think!

Not many posts at present, so read up on this.

It was worn by Neil Armstrong on the outside of his spacesuit when he stepped on the moon. It cost around £100 in 1969, £1,500-£2,000 new now, and used ones are going for around the same price.

That's the one Tut, though not the reason I bought it. I didn't know that when I picked it out the window.

It does say on the back "Flight qualified by NASA for all manned space missions", but I don't know how much of it is based on truth and how much is just marketing nonsense.

I was just thinking that all watches seem to need some "As worn by" claim to sell them. Even the F1 drivers have to leave their sponsors' watches on until the last minute (noticed on the pit walk) and then put them straight back on again after the race for the press conference. Marketing guff methinks.

NASA put ten watches against each other in a competition Graeme, the Omega was the only one that passed every test so was taken on as the official NASA space watch.

Can only go by what I have read, but it is a pretty safe bet that your model watch landed on the Moon in 1969.
