Talking to tintops

Post by thinfourth » Fri Oct 02, 2009 8:59 pm

Yes the one and only modernish car we have has a habit of the dash lighting up like a pinball machine

Now we stuck it into a garage to get it looked at and they charged £50 to say yep there was some faults but we cleared them and it is fine now

2 days later and it does it again

Now how do i talk to the car so i can read fault codes such as ABS faults etc
Landrover 90 = Muddy shed spec
Fiat panda = Couldn't care less spec
Landrover ?? = Muddy shrek spec
Unimog 404S = Very slow silly offroader spec
Kubota F1900 = Snowplough spec

What car, what age, etc . . . if it's ODBII then you can buy a cheapo reader off the bay . . . the older the car the less likely it is to be 'standard' . . .

If it's that age it'll be ODBII. I've got a reader if you want a shot

You won't be able to get ABS or Airbag codes from a Standard EOBD reader though. It will only give you powertrain related codes.

You need manufacturer specific stuff for the other ECUs.

Have a search on ebay for op com. It's for vauxhalls and can read all ecu's in the car i.e airbag/abs/engine
