Martini stripes on an Elise.
No idea which way they would run, but I love the classic paint schemes, and this is the only one I can find with a silver base:

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!
If you're going to do anything, at least do something that's associated with Lotus or it'll just look dumb! Failing that, do something different rather than copy that.

It'll only look dumb to you lot. No one else will know, it's the look I'm after rather than any sort of sponsorship

Only you lot will know and as I've been spotted out and about a grand total of 4 times in a year I'll live with the abuse....
It's not like I'll ever get round to it anyway
Lets face it the JPS elises are pretty far removed form the originals. Fair play they have a conection but it's far from strong... Did Gulf ever sponsor Lotus?

I don't think Gulf ever sponsored Lotus but Gulf was one of the first sponsors to paint the whole car and had a great history. Plus it's a great colour scheme!

Personally, I think if you want to, you should go for it.
On a silver S1 I think it could look quite good, the side stripes starting at the winglets below the headlights, and dissapearing into the side air in takes.
Get somebody to do some photoshop options, to see how it would look.

The Lotus F1 to Lotus Elise JPS is fairly far removed IMHO. Also I don't want to paint the whole car (Or it would have to be the Gulf colours!) But the stripes should be readily made up. Then if I get bored of it then I can strip them off.
How about side stripes form the winglets on the front and the central stripes emerging form the radiator exit pointing inwards or just straight over the top to the front grill?
Anyone good at photoshop?

I think martini stripes could look really good - go for it I'd say

. Certainly would be different, and I guess they would be easy enough to remove if you went off them. Not sure where you would get them done though.

I think that would be okay. Personally I prefer the "try to keep it Lotus" based approach.
One of the best I can recall seeing (a picture) of was an S1 done like a Lotus 49 1967 F1 car
It looks like he even painted it the correct shade of green. This is the only picture I can find but I seem to remember seeing a more detailed one which showed the yellow stripe continuing accross the dash.

P.S.
Let me know if you want me to bring my 4" brush and fairly steady hand

Looks good, but don't paint the dash board. In any conditions, but especially when its sunny, the reflection in the windscreen will drive you crazy, not to mention, blind you! Is that not the point of the matt finish of the dash board, like a flock dash board in a rally car, to cut down on reflection & glare?

The beauty of the Martini colours is that it doesn't require a respray, just a bit of vinyl and a clever cutter thingy and it's reversible if it turns out to be sh*t!

Would they be bribable for help remove some slight chipping on mine?
Once it eventually returns to the road, I'm going to give it some TLC....having said that by the time its back on the road, car painting technology may be at a different level

They could but they generaly do it overnight and on an a-hoc basis. TBH you would be better off trying somewhere a bit more reliable....
I'll ask if you want, but I wouldn't leave my car with them without supervision....
Any news on what went wrong with your donk?
