You can get a mechanical or an automatic speedie pro. This is the mechanical so can, technically, be overwound.

Not quite correct IIRC, Greg. 'Professional' means it's the manual wind movement (NB: pre-NASA units did not have the 'Professional' tag).

Specifically for the Speedy Pro: you'd need pliers or a vice-like grip to over-wind the Speedy - the crown stops turning when fully wound. Simples.

LOL. I am ashamed to confess it is the *only* watch I know anything about!

I thank you all, and bow humbly before the infinite knowledge of the SE collective.

Just being an Omega I thought they would be consistent in their use of 'Professional' . For a moment there I was trying to convince myself that I must have a great spring and the original winding of mine has lasted several years and that my 'ticks' were perhaps just a slightly jaggy sweep.

For the Speedmaster, the 'Professional' tag was introduced following NASA flight qualification of the manual wind movement watch. For this reason the automatics aren't 'Professionals' since their movement is not flight-qualified (for fairly obvious reasons!). There is one non-mechanical exception, the Speedmaster Professional X-33 which was the quartz analogue/digital watch no longer sold, which was also flight qualified and used on Shuttle missions. I don't know if this watch is still made for NASA use.

Presumably Seamaster Professional models have a similarly proven movement for professional diving use? But I'm just guessing as my knowledge really is limited to the Speedy!

EDIT: just been to see if they do it in white: they don't. :(

Really like the second one.

I'm still looking for a everyday watch that fits the bill well. Will have to wait until i pay off my racing debt first thou.
