Hot Marques Sunday 29th Nov

More pics on Pistonheads.

I like the idea of the big foam barriers KH use but cant help wondering if they helped to flip the car over in this case?

Re: Hot Marques Sunday 29th Nov
cant see foam barriers turning over a 2 tonne car - its not going in straight on gravel that normally causes that.
Suspect they (the occupants) would have been in far worse state than they were without them? Hitting tyres at speed will hurt, so anything to reduce that has got to be a good thing. Given the pics it thought it would look worse when popped back on its wheels

Re: Hot Marques Sunday 29th Nov
Driver said that it was complete brake failure. Thought that was not supposed to happen with dual circuit systems?
If I had known that, doubt if I would have done several Stelvios.

Brakes were fine when he locked them up in to the first corner then again into the chicane on that same lap. The car looks in not bad nick after the size of the impact which is amazing as it bounced up pretty high in the air.

Re: Hot Marques Sunday 29th Nov
havent been on the forum for a while, wondered if there was going to be any pictures of the prick in the mustang - i was there in the r400 - the driver of the mustang was driving like a c##t
not that i can speak, but at least i know when to slow down if the brakes are over heating which is apparently what happened.
He had a passenger who he didnt know with him (wife of a guy i know) and shouldnt drive like that with a passenger in the car, let alone a stranger!!!
next gripe - what is it about drivers of 911's that dont understand how to move aside for quicker cars, it seems that if you drive a porsche on track then you are unable to pull to the right and lift off to allow a less powerful but much quicker (or better driven) car past. Was a bit of a fustrating track day, but weather held out surprisingly well
sadly, people who act so irresponsibly on track days - and the bad press that follows is why we will end up not even being able to drive our cars in track without much more strick rules and intervention in speeds etc. than we already have

Re: Hot Marques Sunday 29th Nov
indeed - the one that was travelling much quicker than anything else on the track...
i get fed up with people not yeilding up the straights to let less powerful cars by, then hold them up round the fun twisty bits!
The woman involved was ok, but obviously slightly shocked.
As scotty says, Ferrari drivers are as bad as the porsche ones!! (excluding my good self obviously!)
anyway - i always think that the lotus community seem fairly respectful to each other on track and suffer the same problems with more powerful but slower cars on the track being an obsticle.
just for the record i was only driving the r400 for a small part of the day, a friend of mine was driving it mostly, and was the one that also went of just at the end of the session at the end of the main straight as was catching up a very early braking porsche and had to take evasive action..

Re: Hot Marques Sunday 29th Nov
Just Noticed this thread and whilst I was not there to witness what happened, I would offer up the following:-
The Mustang unless I am mistaken belongs to a very experienced driver I have known for over 20 years .... I*n G (Ex Blue/White GT3 RS )
If it was indeed I*n that was driving, I would state that I*n has many years of competition and track driving experience and is probably the only man I know that will have completed more KH laps than Mass and Tut combined
.
The eye witness accounts of the alleged driving style on the day are not traits I recognize in I*n.
Accidents on trackdays are inevitable and I hope that Driver and Passenger are none the worse for their ordeal...... and the foam appears to have done a great job in preserving car and occupants alike

Re: Hot Marques Sunday 29th Nov
I saw some things on other sites (ph etc.) about the driver claiming that he was a good driver, and he may very well be a good competition driver.
One thing I must say though is that driving at top speed in a race is completely different to track days where there are potentially new and inexperienced drivers on track not driving as you would expect.
That's the reason that in the briefings they stipulate that no-one should be overtaking on corners, only overtaking on the left and waiting until let past. I don't doubt that there were many experienced drivers on track who knew a lot of other drivers and were having their own little races, but the reason that the rules are there is for the unknown entity of the newbie drivers who may not always be checking their mirrors and pull across without looking.
There were a couple of times I was in cars with people and straight after a corner they started to pull to the right to let someone past and almost side-swiped a car overtaking up the right.
It was not like other people had said where they were travelling slow and holding people up, the cars behind had only caught them at that corner and didn't even give them a chance to pull over.
Sorry to rant, but that kind of driving is just down right dangerous when you are in a non-competitive environment!

That would usually merit an immediate black flag. If not, why not? People will not go to Hot Marques days if they turn into Speed Sundays.

Re: Hot Marques Sunday 29th Nov
I think it's fair to say that there were more than a few instances of bad track etiquette - but it was no worse than the "normal" HM efforts IMHO. The usual wide variety of experience, talent and cars on a HM day will always lead to the odd hairy moment.
It was certainly no Speed Sunday, but neither was it an SIDC.
Scotty - there were meant to be blue flags but i don't remember seeing any when i was paxing for an hour or two.............saw a few black and a lot of red though. Clearly if I'd been on track i would have seen a lot of blue
