This :withstupid

This is one of the reasons I stopped doing HM days, the etiquette on track can be very hit or miss.

I hate tarring others with the same brush, but If i see a lot of 911's in the paddock it normally produces a sigh :(

SIDC is the only way forward :thumbsup

Would have made an effort to come down mads if I had known you would be there.

Looked as if it would be quiet and hardly any S_E were going, but we could have had a little lapping session.

Have to say I didn't experience anything especially bad in terms of track etiquette, and this was the one thing I had been worried about before booking it. The worst culprits were the same ones that do the SIDC days (think of a quartet of cars that like to drive round nose to tail and get right up close in the braking areas).

Incidentally, my younger sister was up with me on Sunday and commented that she'd quite like to give a trackday a go next year. As a complete novice though I would be more than a little concerned with how the aforementioned drivers could put someone like that off. I find it daunting having a car sitting tight up behind you in the braking zones and trying to overtake on the outside prior to the exit of the bend - it really wouldn't take much to have a collision. Fine for people to race each other (racing is banned on trackdays  ), but all I want to do is let them past and do my own thing, I don't do trackdays for the ego trip.

I know exaclty what you mean Digital.

Looking to get Jen out on track next year but worried about the EGO BRIGADE trying to out brake her or overtake in the wrong place. I would expect a novice to make mistakes but i guess thats why those rules are in place.

Its usually about now i say "Kames"

But seriously that helped me to get myself up to a speed where i was much more comfortable to go on track. Add that experience to a KH instruction day to help me to get my lines right and the last time i was on track (AMP3 day) i didnt embarrass myself despite some very quick stuff.

I'm going to get mrs donkey out in the vx next summer, and i think Kames would be a great introduction to what the car can do without having to worrry about who is behind you.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

:welcome Rod. Hope your cars are going ok.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

i get fed up with people not yeilding up the straights to let less powerful cars by, then hold them up round the fun twisty bits!
Did I understand that correctly? That you feel justified in overtaking on the right while entering (or in) a corner at a KH trackday?

Women only TDs at KH are very rare. They should do a novice day at the beginning of the TD season next year. I recommend Jen or any other novices to attend that.

think they run a few novice days.

Clare (mrsG) had a shot at one of the SIDC's, and was a bit overwhelmed, while i was a bit over whelmed by her lack of understanding of the laws of physics!

She did some impressive stuff though, possibly by mistake, but all good

What Clare didnt enjoy the fact that there were the usual nutters out there though :damnfunny . She felt too under pressure, which resulted in her concentrating more on what she though was about to crash in to her, than what she was doing. Not ideal for learning.

Not sure she realised that we held a party for the same people not long after :damnfunny

@jasonliddell
of course! 2 laps of waiting behind someone to move over is NOT acceptable in my book.
there was not any blue flags being shown, not that the forementioned porsche drivers would have noticed them anyway - they were probably too busy looking for some driving talent! (specifically a 997 C4S convertible - i think the Aveda edition)
If the slower cars learned to follow quicker cars (and i am talking about around the corners rather than down the straights) then maybe they would learn how to drive round the track properly.

I would suggest for nervous drivers, a general track day is really more likely to frighten the driver (and the passenger! - AndyG) so maybe booking the track for an exclusive/private day, or doing one of the prescribed Knockhill days / courses would be a better intro to track driving under much more controlled conditions with professional tuition.

Everyone including the most experienced drivers benefit from instruction and tuition - even current F1 drivers still get tuition, and having someone else watch you drive will always bring up some improvements.
Sadly there are lots of people in fast cars who think that they are great drivers.
We can all learn

Mads, I'm with Jason on this. Can't agree that it is ever acceptable to overtake on the right going into Duffus on a trackday - that is for racing. I know I'm not as fast as you and will be very nervous if I see you behind. The briefing is quite clear - report cars to Knockhill staff if they don't move over.
