High Level Summary
Overview before specific details are provided further below :-
• 1993 JDM WRX with a fresh re-built JDM STi-7 engine and choice modifications. Very light car with no ABS. RA heads means it revs comfortably to 7000rpm like an STi would.
• Engine sourced from API & installed by Greers Motorsport.
• Private Plate “L9 BPM” to be sold with the car.
• CAT1 Alarm – Toad Ai606 Alarm / Immobilser fitted.
• Mileage is 135K but this is meaningless as the car is in excellent condition and the current engine has only done some 30K miles.
• Re-Mapped by Andy Forrest 3 months ago running sensible, safe boost. Tweaked by Wallace Performance before that when a spark plug issue was diagnosed but originally mapped a few years back by Andy F. again when the new engine was installed.
• Car has been in the SIDC community for years with G.Hyett ( Pedals) and Weeb (B.Milliken) being previous owners.
• Garaged and only driven in the dry (3rd car in the family so not a daily driver)
• Proven 310 bhp with Equal Length manifolds ( Wallace Dyno)
• Since being mapped by Andy F. 3 months ago is making 320bhp with 300 ft lbs (est.)
• Only £260 to insure for me on 3rd PFT via Gary Moulson @ Keith Michaels. That’s with ALL mods declared.
• Road Tax until July 2010
• Due MOT in Dec. but will sail through (I can equally do this and I’m very confident as last years advisories were sorted properly)
• Very expensive H&S Sports Cat fitted so no emissions issues. Sounds very nice without annoying resonance. Especially when accompanied by the Apexi induction sucking cold air with the Forge DV. Pops and bangs guaranteed !
• Interior is in fantastic condition, no smoking, no tears or rips and the OEM seats are very comfortable yet huggy
• Massive amount of paperwork, receipts and 2 keys to come with car with all previous MOT’s and V5 on new reg. plate.
History
Imported into the UK for the first time in 2004 so only 5 years exposure to UK roads. The car is not undersealed but the bodywork and underside is great condition. I have owned the car for 13 months (from October 2008) in which time I changed the alloys, made numerous subtle cosmetic changes and made many sensible changes. SIDC member ;“Pedals” owned this for 11 months before me and made very few changes. SIDC member ;“Weeb” before this installed the engine & excellent modifications via GreerSport. Details below. The new donor engine / brakes came from C.Wilkinsons STi RA ( “Wilky” and is bomb proof. The very fact I am taking time to put this advert together shows that I am an enthusiast of 5+ years. The car did one track day at KH with me but was driven sensibly (videos on YouTube support this).
During the 2009 MOT I sorted out a rear fog light and sorted a fouling brake hose. They were no other faults and the car went through without any other issues whatsoever. I have spent £3500+ on the car in this 13 month period getting it the way I wanted it.
Engine
Entire package mapped by Andy Forrest in August 2009 ( see below) :-
• API sourced & supplied JDM STI 7 bottom end also re-built by API (well established and trusted) adapted for phase one car.
• The JDM block, crank pistons & rods - semi forged so very strong.
• Has STi V2 RA heads, which are higher revving than the standard STI V2 heads. Heads and cams port matched to all manifolds and ported and polished. Standard size valves.
• Ported & properly balanced TD05 16g Turbo. Andy F. reported that the turbo was making 1.65 bar when he was investigating its limits during mapping.
• The bottom end should be well capable of pushing 350 +bhp / 350 ft lbs with more modding/ supporting turbo as the JDM’s engines are known to be stronger.
• Phase one inlet manifold powder coated blue with manifold insulation spacers, and port matched to fit onto the STI 7 block with STI V2 RA heads and SS gaskets.
• Appropriate fuelling via Sards 550cc injectors on phase one rails which have been powder-coated STI pink. Throttle body onto manifold is ported and knife-edged. Install a stronger MAF and you’ll still be able to squeeze more out of these injectors on this set up.
• Nicely ported OEM headers from Arch, respected SIDC member. The burble is back as the car previously ran equal length tubular headers.
• True 3’’ exhaust system the whole way from the turbo back via a genuine HKS Hyperflow Titanium Tip centre section and backbox. Only 600 systems made on a limited edition according to Wuz.
• The Exhaust is mated to an expensive Sports Cat which retails @ £600 from Hayward and Scott. It’s done circa 3000 miles and is in very shiny condition. It’s fully lagged and is 3” at the exhaust section end i.e a true 3” system. It sounds exceptional but will not annoy your neighbours or attract the police. Track day friendly too but most importantly peace of mind come MOT time as the cat is a 100 CEL system of the finest quality.
• All Mapped to 1.4 bar by Andy Forrest ( tailing to 1.5 bar in some gears). Car is mapped “in gear” via the boost sensor in the AVCR.
• Switchable Low boost map at 0.9 bar for economy / safe travel
• Apexi Power-FC and Commander (discontinued I believe so pretty rare and expensive aftermarket ECU with separate hand unit)
• Apexi AVCR boost controller (fine piece of kit with reads out and digital gauges too)
• Apexi Cold Air Induction Kit (sounds immense and suits this car/ package)
• Forge Dump Valve (great quality part not cheap ebay part)
• Large FMIC ( front mount intercooler)– made by Autobahn88 and nicely fitted with right amount of play to allow engine to move.
• New Fan and Timing belts changed by Greersport in 2008.
• New NGK PFR7B plugs fitted within last 2000 miles. (properly “gapped”)
• New battery fitted in late 2008.
• Evidence of two oil changes (15/50 fully synthetic oil) within the last 3000 miles. (One oil change on receipt of the car and one change after Knockhill)
• Gearbox and diff oil flushed & replaced within the last 500 miles.
• Only ever run and V-power and warmed up gently for at least 15 minutes before increasing revs / boost.
• Uprated Heavy Duty Clutch ( unsure what type) – zero and I mean zero slippage. Lovely weight to it and it’s strong as an ox.
Wheels, Suspension & Brakes
Nice B-road set-up that would benefit from lowering springs for a track day. Otherwise, perfect for the UK roads with minimal body roll tailored towards mild oversteer.
• Outstanding custom installed 4 pot Brembo front calipers which came from a Seat Leon Cupra R. I have sourced from Ian Godney, (of GodSpeed) the correct caliper adapters ( 4 x £17.50 each!) for the braided cables and used 5.1 fluid. On track these are practically fade free and make a regular STi’s Brembo’s look lame. Mind blowing especially when coupled with no ABS. You’ll laugh at how late you can break with these and how progressive and firm these are. Look great in Red too.
• Again from GodSpeed – recently installed grooved discs and uprated pads all round plus braided hoses + 5.1 fluid ( Cost £390.00 + labour to fit so no cheap job)
• Front Discs are 294mm so use standard WRX discs (but with Leon Cupra “Family Race” Pads as Ian Godney calls them.)
• Rear calipers are standard but run uprated pads and are in excellent condition. Discs are 266mm.
• Mint condition 4 Gold OEM alloys which came straight of a Jap Import last year. 16” and best size to maintain low unsprung weight. Shod with very nice Advan Neova rubber which is a nice compromise for road & track. They have loads of tread left and are fantastic. The condition of these wheels/tyres is exceptional.
• 4 other 17’’ Bugeye WRX alloys available with decent tyres for £150 extra.
• Adjustable Cusco 21mm Anti-Roll Bar installed on stiffest setting
• Solid Whiteline Alloy Drop Links ( rear only)
• Spare WRX springs included in the sale.
Exterior :
• Very lightweight alloy bonnet ( not the heavy OEM one so excellent weight saving)
• Fitted a WRC style FMIC bonnet grill from DR Motorsport £100.00
• Subtle UK standard WRX Spoiler painted and installed this year.
• Freshly painted new front bumper fitted which skirts round the Front Mount IC perfectly (existing bumper on was not perfect and annoyed me so I acted). The associated lights all work as expected.
• Front fog lamp covers installed nicely and painted matched too.
• Nice short Reg. Plates ( L9 BPM ) fitted which allows max air flow to the FMIC and looks spot on with minimal footprint.
• Rear washer wipe and tank ( nice JDM feature)
• Brand New Performance Creation Mudflaps with Prodrive decals.
• Rear Fog lamp fitted which keeps the car MOT friendly
Interior:
• New CG Lock worth £45 which makes the seatbelt “harness like”- I may remove this.....
• CD and Minidisk player
• Programmable Turbo Timer (can disable if required)
• Recently re-instated power socket with enough slack to run a camcorder to the rear of the car. Fused and safe feed from battery.
Minor niggles ( hope you appreciate the honesty here…)
• Passenger door does not lock with the central locking but locks manually with the key or by reaching over from the drivers side. All other doors lock centrally. Was like this when I got it.
• Small whine from front right-hand side. Suspect front diff or wheel bearing. Yet to diagnose but car drives fine regardless and shall still pass MOT. I suspect about £200 to fix if it’s the diff. However, all fully functioning but making a slight noise. Could be something more simple but I have not had it checked out.
• Drivers door seems to be a slighty different colour of silver. Again, like that when I bought it and does not really bother me.
• On occasion that clutch wont fully retract. Never an issue and we’re only talking 20mm or so. Did a track day with it like this no bother. Andy Forrest checked it out and said the master spring was missing. £10 from a scrappies to sort out. Again, like this when I bought it and never bothered me sufficiently.
In summary, a 16 year old car with a very strong engine, strong brakes needing little ( if any work done other than a small niggle). I have spent £3500+ making this car near perfect in terms of mechanical / exterior looks.
Power delivery is unreal. Pulls very hard on the TD05-16G but revs cleanly to 7K. Will totally trounce a regular STi and performed extremely well at Knockhill. The engine in this car alone is worth a pretty penny with the amount of associated labour. As a total package it does the business

I am not desperate to sell and would be keen to see this go to an enthusiast.
Car is based in Aberdeen.
Thanks & Regards, Calum Shand.
PICTURES ( remember it now has the reverse FMIC scoop and HKS exhaust fitted so bear this in mind although older pics are best quality)

Power FC and AVCR Boost Controller + Turbo Timer + Great Nardini Steering Wheel

Check out how neat the FMIC fits round the bumper after I had it done properly

Before the EL headers were fitted..... Andy Forrest has since ( AUG 09) brought the torque figure WAY up and making target boost with ease

An old picture of the receipts. I have added a fair few of late !

Older pic of the interior to show what the seats are like

and finally always garaged......see the new HKS exhaust

Thanks for looking, Cal
