Not Lotus But Need Help Zetec Fuel Pump

Post by Andy H » Sat Dec 05, 2009 4:45 pm

Drove to work yesterday, but had to get a flat bed truck home.
Ford Focus 1.6 2003 Engine Code FYDB 1. :(

Other car is an S1 160 Sport :)

Focus not starting, suspect Fuel Pump as it does not prime when Ign. switched on.

Fuse 12 ok. Relay R7 Ok, but when I checked the Green / Orange wire at the fuel cut off switch no volts when Ign Sw. on.

Pulled relay and pin 5 which feeds the Sw. is only indicating 7V when Ign Sw. on.

My Hynes 2001-05 does not have the wiring diagrame, but a 1998-01 does.
No mention of the crank sensor being included in this circuit

I don’t want to take the tank and pump out only to find I have a wiring issue somewhere.

Anyone help ?

Thanks

Andy

I've got the very same car but nevcer had an issue with the pump.

What about checking the pump by providing power to it directly? At least you'd know it was something between the pump and the power that was the problem if it works.

Yes,
Ive cut back the insulation on the two cables for the pump under the seat and used a Bike Battey 12V and no pump noise.

Further checks using my daughters Focus as a comparison and getting a decent earth for the Fluke Meter Im 99.9% convinced it is the pump.

So exasut to be droopped all the heat sheilding then the tank.............

Thanks for the reply.

Just in case you were woundering.

Pump removed and the very small spade connection on the 12V was burned out.

So all I need is a new pump and several Hrs lying on the garage floor.................
