Quick update as it's now the end of the cars first (short) season. It has done three events this year two of which have been double entries. Those both being at Boyndie. First was with Victor and the second with Ricky Gauld, guy that built the engine in the end. At the first Boyndie the car took a second in class on the Saturday and a first in class on the Sunday, both in the hands of Vic. Top job by him on both days and showed what the car was capable of given that we spent the whole weekend chasing suspension set up trying to cure some pretty horrendous understeer. and it was only 1/2sec off the class record. At the second event I managed to get PB's on both days and got down into the 70's which was my target.
As for the car, it's definitely quick from the data logger off the line it's hitting 60 in 4.6sec with a top speed down the straight at Boyndie of 79mph in 7.2secs, needs 3rd gear. Still second gear round the in-field and 3rd only on the straight.
Times should tumble once I learn to drive the thing I've built and will be using Mr Walsh's service during the closed season.

I still have the idle problem with the car but that's for another thread and have had gearbox issues which, touch wood, are now sorted. Which leads to it's final spec

Thanks goes to so many people for there help and advice throughout the build. In particular Robin and Hiscot on here for steering me in the right direction more times than I care to remember.

So, would I do it again and what would I do different. Well I would go scholar 1.9 and also go the vibration free route with tungsten insertion for the crank. That would have added 3k to the bill which I couldn't afford at the time but it'll be the bases for the sequel. I also would not have used a new crank in an old block. But hindsight is always 20/20.

Thanks for reading and hope that should you embark on your own project this doesn't put you off and maybe provides some useful pointers.

<Hannibal>I love it when a plan comes together!</Hannibal>

Glad to see it's finally working the way it should. My advice now is leave it alone and drive it until it breaks ... though a vibration-free crankshaft would give you insane RPM ... hmmmm.

Cheers,
Robin

good luck mike , i wanted to sprint mine this year but fate has put a hold on that , i also have a close box and was going to get a set of larger exige wheels for the odd track that may require holding onto a gear rather than changing up for a few seconds before a corner ( may give a slight advantage ? )
if you ever do golspie let me know it would be nice to meet up

Hey Mikie, sorry to resurrect this thread from the dead (although it deserves to remain in the SE consciousness for all its worthy information.

But your fuel pump, is this a direct replacement for the OEM unit?

No, it required a bit of modification to the pumps loom. The plugs for the pumps were different, however I have since gone back to a standard pump all be it a brand new one as the walbro is only a single stage pump and gave some fuel surge problems. So unless your going to shell out for pro alloys baffled tank or similar the stick with the original pump.
