This is not the 1st or 2nd time there's been a SE run crash. I'll eat my words if it's proven to be mechanical but it's a recurring theme of not driving to the road conditions. I was driving over probably the same roads as the Sunday run. Roads were very wet...then dry...then wet mud/snow/ice. Having been on many SE road runs in the past (but not for some time and probably will never again) i know what they're all about. Yes there's no pressure for anyone to do a "100 Tuts" but you get carried away.
Want to go fast...go on track where it's a whole lot safer with less things to hit and lower risk of things going very wrong or even fatal.
As for Lotus cars not being safe I disagree. Tut, Robin, Scotty have proven that theory wrong with some big impacts.
Couldn't have put it better myself. I haven't been on an SE roadrun for a couple of years now, but every time I read about them, it appears there's another Elise in a ditch or field.

It has nothing to do with the Insurance company, he was on a public road, his car is MOT'd, tyres legal.
He lost control and had an accident, probably the cause for the majority of claims. No body else involved so it was a straight blame insurance claim. We are purely discussing what happened and what the likely cause was.

Glad you're ok, but you must feel gutted. It's really easy to blame yourself, and I know how you must be feeling but these things happen, they happen quickly and often it is down to mechanical failure.
Maybe this is a wake up call to forget the mega honda power idea and play around in a baby S1 to learn the car. How many people on here / SELOC etc have high power S1s and rave about a baby one when they try it again...

There was a time when I'd be first in the queue for flaming you, but I have to say, given the past few seasons, I see your point now.
There certainly won't be another forum run organised by me.

I do see the point but I have to say that its the people who make the run good! I have been on the past two Borders runs which were split into various groups, where you could find a comfortable spot and enjoy the drive at your own pace. I have to say that its my opinion that the person who is driving should be responsible and go at their own pace. I do see though that on these types of runs you can push a bit more than you normally would. That said on the runs I have been on there has be no incidents and everyone seemed to have a good time. It seems to be these Aberdeen lot giving them a bad name, especially that old nutter by the name of Tut. I'll stay clear of the runs he is on

Wouldn't worry about the thread or posting pics from an insurance claim point of view.
If there's a police investigation ongoing however, then think twice about this sort of public outpouring at this stage.

First off very sorry to hear about your incident Kevin but as said the main thing is your okay and not too discouraged. Still have not met but hopefully will soon in your next lotus tub.
"There was a time when I'd be first in the queue for flaming you, but I have to say, given the past few seasons, I see your point now."
Have to agree shug, but I think the issue now is that this is now a very large club with many many walks of life. Not like ten years back when it was always the same, low number of, folks who were all on the same wavelength. There is definately a sense of this forum having to be very PC, which given the amount of people here is fair enough but not how Id prefer it.
Just my 2p.
Craig.
PS One other thing, when I first started I had not a hope in hell of keeping up with anyone else on here and had several moments in trying to do so where I thought the car was going to be in the ditch (wrong to try keep up I know). Thing is, I was lucky and gradually learned to drive the car without a prang, once your experienced its perfectly feasible to drive these cars at our pace perfectly safely, its how you get the experience thats the problem because fast road driving is totally different to track driving.

I have never been on a SE run so far but was hoping to come out the cave this year and meet some of you. However, all this talk of not running meets is slightly worrying. Is it not the case that every driver has the responsibility for their own driving actions? Accidents can happen anywhere. The point about an organised meet is that if anything happens then there are plenty of people around who can help you get sorted... I only see positives I dont see how the meet can cause the incident in the first place?
But as I said.. "I have never been on a run yet" and might be talking out my bottom. Interesting thread..

In theory, what you're saying is exactly right and even covered in the run guidelines in the Meets forum. The issue is that it's never quite as clear cut, it seems and Alan's reaction above indicates that when you crash on a run, it's not just your day you're spoiling. I know as an organiser in the past as well, you always blame yourself for road selection/not being clear enough/just doing it in the first place.
It's a tough one to call, TBH. The thought of not organising another run makes me sad, but I dread to think how I'd feel if someone was hurt or worse on one that I'd proposed...

You should def not be feeling responsible, this was an accident thats all and I can assure that there is no blame to go to anyone. We/You will continue to organise runs because we enjoy it, and I will not let you stop. In future it will just be necessery to make sure everyone understands what risks they are taking on before departure.

You can meet SE people and not go on a road run remember. There are always a few at each KH day, some autotests and Kames, not to mention SE beers.

At the risk of getting flamed the only pertinent statement that has been made about road runs so far is
the person who is driving should be responsible and go at their own pace.

Run organisers don't force people tp attend and can't be held responsible ( or feel responsible) for other peoples errors of judgement.
