Ultimate Green Ford Focus RS

Post by Gareth » Fri Mar 19, 2010 10:43 am

Some of you might be interested. There's a inner chav in all of us!

I've had the RS 6 days now. Having sold the Z4M (great car but I wanted a more useable car that could transport kids/MTbike/golf clubs and still be relatively fast/appealing) I had two cars in mind. MMC's Isotope Exige and a Focus RS. After much thought (too much for me) I ruled out the Exige. It would be even less practical than the Z4M and that's why I sold that. Didn't really make sense to buy the Exige when I had a Elise on the driveway. So hunted around for a RS. Visited the Aberdeen dealer but they refused to offer any discount on list price. Looked to used market and there wasn't anything that quite ticked all my boxes. Ultimate Green, half leather and lux 2. Spotted a couple of used ones but they wanted strong money and I could practically buy a new one for the same money.

In stepped Iain from Ben Nevis motors in Fort William. He was really nice to deal with and accommodating with sorting me out with pics and a lift to go and pick it up from FW. The day I was to picked it up I was in Edinburgh, pretty hungover after a night on the tiles. The last thing I wanted to do was go to FW especially since I wasn't in love with the RS....I still had the Exige in my mind....I'm a Lotus geek after all. So I arrived a little unsure but when I saw it I've never looked back.

Not really given it much beans yet. Sounds mega as I've already said. Turbo spools up, big induction/engine noise that I can only describe as subaru like and when you dump the clutch you get a couple of deep bellows out the rear exhausts. I wouldn't say it's blinding quick but I reckon it's pretty quick once the turbo is spooling and you're banging through the gears. Seats are comfy, touch screen radio/cd/ipod/nav is ace. Oh and the reverse camera is pointless but cool :D

Enough drivel...more pics!

Love it, Love it, Love it. Might be biased as I've got an appreciation for ST & RS Fords though (even the wee Fiesta ST I had was great).

Despite the flamboyancy of the RS, for some reason it seems less chav (to me) than the TME Evo (sorry Jim).
Saw a white RS this morning, but the green is just got to be the colour if you've got the balls.
Wonder what the wheels would look like in gloss black to match the spoiler.

Interior looks a decent place to sit as well.
Like those seats... wish I had them in my Megane, guess I should have got an R26 with Recaro's then !!

Hope you enjoy it.

It does look great G. 8)
Wheels better in silver IMO.

THe one thing I didn't like about the Focus (ST) was the seat height - adjustable but too high an wouldn't go low enough. Is the RS any better?

No offence taken ... I agree with you

I think that looks fab. Great colour for an in-yer-face car 8)
I saw a white RS in Montrose recently and my first thought was that it really stood out and looked kind of special, whereas when I see an Evo (even a TME) I tend to have an inner blush

Ali, only thing I dislike is the seating position. It's a little high. Us being tall fella's don't have a problem with head room. It just feels a little odd.
I believe you can mod the frame to drop the seat a little. I guess the driving position is more upright where as in the Elise you're lower and in more of a flat driving position. Happy to give you a shot.

PS Wheels will be staying silver. Just don't like the black for some reason. Strange since my 340R was this combo

Might just be because the picture of that '09 car isn't an arty one.... but would tend to agree on the silver wheels now having seen that.

Looking good Gareth ( despite my slagging in the other thread), my brother has an ST and they do sound good too - just like the old Audi Quattro 8)

Looks lovely. I spent 15 years worshipping nothing other than RS's, this car makes me moist. :thumbsup

I'm loving that. What's she like on the juice? Presumably nothing other than BP/Shell's finest will do?

Love the rear reversing camera too, a nice touch.

I'm getting 22/23mpg but I have a friend who does better. Maybe take a few tanks of juice to improve.
