Anyone else had the floorpanel stuff done at MMC recently? I got it done a couple of weeks ago and made a point of asking several times (to different people) whether it would be free (cos I'm a cheap barsteward
), and was told "yes" each time. Today I get an invoice in the post saying I owe £180! (Can't believe it's £50 for those sh*t "breathable carpets" they give you!) Anyway, gonna give em a call about it tomorrow
, but I was just wondering if anyone else had this when they got theirs done.

You have the car yes?
They have sent you a bill after saying it was free?
Tell them to GF as this is a warranty repair done under the 8 year anti-corrosion warranty on the chassis. If the problem had been there before the warranty ran out (Which it was) then it is covered and thefore free! A call to Lotus might be worth it after MMC argue the toss (Which they will)

This may be useful (I like it now I've found it!):

Yes, yes, and yes!
It was under warranty, still is for another few months yet. I was told by the receptionist there that it wasn't covered by the chassis corrosion warranty as the panels aren't integral to the structure, but it was a recall from Lotus so the work was free anyway. Could just be some administrative error (or maybe an "administrative error", with quotes), but it's annoying even if it is just a mistake.
If the panels aren't integral, why didn't Lotus change them then? Was it because they are bonded in by Hydro when they were manufactured and to remove them would be nigh on impossible?
Codswallop I say, time to get angry!

I had this done a couple of weeks ago at MMC too. My car is out of its 8 year chassis warranty, and initially when I enquired about it, I was told I'd be charged due to this fact. I mentioned that I heard of people getting it done FOC out of warranty. Said they'd call me back. When they did they said yes its a free repair as its a recall. Sure they would have happily charged me if I hadn't pushed the point.
When I dropped the car off, they guy in the service dept said something along the lines of "oh yeah, in for the recall", and when I picked up the car fixed and valet'd, there was no mention of any charges. So they're pretty aware its a recall.

err... (dozy git content)
Ahem.
Turns out it's just a copy of the invoice they sent to Lotus in Hethel, as I asked them to send me some sort of receipt to show where & when the work was done. Didn't notice "invoice name & address" in the corner was different to "customer name and address", err.. oops.
So yeah, all sorted now, guess I didn't need to be quite so paranoid about MMC after all! (And I was geared up for a rant and everything)
