you could have a cracking K for £2k - or even less if DDTB has any salvagable parts from the engine :thumbsup

And there was that thread to the brand new K for £1250+VAT

Future Dave can worry about the money.

I like the fact you get a brand new engine and it doesn't suffer from any of the problems the Honda install seems to cause. Seems like the best option for upgrading from a K.... :popcorn
Deep Breath, nope not saying anything ....
awwwwww.... it's no fun if no one wants to play!!

I went and bought a S2000 over a Elise as i thought the K would explode on route home if i bought one. After Frolics 8 i decided enough was enough and bought a S1 135 ran it for 9 months and 10,000 miles with Frolic 9 and a few other track days in the mix......result, should of bought one years ago :thumbsup

No problems with the 135R yet, apart from my company moving office and it not being great for commuting

I think I need to either get it on track to remember why I bought it or change it for a newer one that's better suited to every day use. As others have said, if you're worried about HGF then get a toyota model but I prefer the way the K series drives.

I joined this forum looking for a exige in a years time and hoped to get some knowledge and background information on the car before taking the plunge. A few weeks later I met up with a group for a BBQ at dukes pass having in my head that K series were horrible and never ever would I go near one. Shug took me a run over the pass and two weeks later I had a 111s S1 elise complete with a k series. Now 2 years into ownership its still with me as in my head the extra money for the exige would not equate to equal pleasure for me at this stage.

In my position I can comfortably afford to run the elise and it sits there and makes me smile everytime I use it. Also there are many sheds under the 1k mark out there that you can buy to run about in all week and keep the elise for fun. That way the elise breaks you have a back up car and can fix it when the time/cash allows. Also AA P&L is a big help but fortunately not had to use it as yet. If I bought an exige I would only lose money racking up the miles everywhere as I could not afford a 2nd car, where as with the elise they seem to be quite stable price wise and with the spare cash for a shed to rack up commuting miles.

As I want to go for a house soon the elise/shed mix seems to be the correct way forward. Over the 2 years yes the car has had its issues here and there but really from the help of Mac and Ali(SLS) the bills are not scary and can be afforded, so it puts your mind at ease. Now with AA parts and labour the costs will be even more reduced.

My advise would be stop worrying about the issues you may have. If you want to go for a fun car that will make you smile jump at the S1 elise, get parts and labour and see when it does have its little issues here and there, there will be many around to help you fix the car and the bills are more than affordable. Trust me after two years of ownership, I realise even with the issues that can occur you still love the car to bits. Taking into account the low tax costs/fuel economy/low repair bills in comparison, the S1 elise in my opinion is a really great choice. Just you have to realise in your head that the car will have its little niggles here and there and it will break from time to time but you know the the costs involved are not going to break the bank and you will have the contacts and people to help on here.

Well that run was a sort of mind changing decision. It was sort of, fcuk that was epic, its a rover k series and its affordable right now, I got to get looking. Then after having a chat about the whole thing, my mind was made up, loan was applied for and the hunt began and I have never looked back. Yes they have there problems but they are truely epic raw cars that you get such great fun driving. The whole challege, learning experience, raw feeling of the car really gives you a epic feeling and I dont think I will want to change it. Once its all paid off it doesnt owe me anything and if it breaks it can lie there until I have the money/time to replace the bits, simple. If I want a car I can use daily buy an under 1k shed and use it for the year....Sorted :thumbsup
