My Elise is off to Germany

Well, that's my Elise gone to a dealer in Germany.

He phoned me on Thursday, agreed a price on Friday, flew in to Edinburgh on Sunday, paid cash and off it went.

I was really suspicious about the speed that everything went at and the fact that I couldn't put the cash into the bank on Sunday. It turns out that there are 2 partners and they run a Lotus sales & repairs business while organising trackdays around Germany as well. He said that they run some of the cheaper days at the Ring if anyone is interested. I was pretty confident that everything was ok but I just had this strange feeling until the cash was actually accepted by the bank. One of my mates owns a wee shop and has a UV light so he had a look at the notes to give them a once over.

The dealer was driving to Manchester yesterday to view another car that they're hoping to pick up next week and then driving back to Germany via the ferry at Dover. I can't say it would be one of the most pleasurable drives.

I didn't realise I would be so emotional about it going. It was my first Lotus and I had some great times with it. I've had the Exige since last August so it wasn't like there was the excitement of another car arriving at the same time.

Awww, :cry: but its good that you sold it and now someone else can enjoy it and collect memories of their own with it. You'll just have to get out and enjoy the exige now! :thumbsup

We need a has your car gone to Europe poll, they must be getting pretty rare in the UK ;)

Hi

I currently have my car for sale and have had some emails from interested buyers in Europe. One from France, one from Belgium and one from Italy.

Do you have to do anything extra other than the V5 when selling to someone abroad?, after a quick google, I've read a little about a Euro1 form??

Anyone had to do this?

For me it was just a case of filling in the V5 and writing to the DVLA to tell them that it was permanently exported. The dealer also asked for a written contract that he needed for his records back home. I downloaded a standard one from the AA website and filled that in. The buyer does the rest when they get back.

I've seen that some Euro buyers will ask for a COC. You can get this from Lotus for £50 apparently but my buyer never asked for one.

The CoC should be required if exporting to Europe, so that the owner can get it registered correctly in their country.
It may actually be printed in the back of your owners handbook, so have a look (it was in the handbook for my 135R, but not for my standard S2).
If not, contact Lotus... they can send you a copy.

As above, fill out the permanent export section of the V5 & send it to DVLA with a covering letter to say it was sold & taken abroad. If you can get the tax disc off the car (as the new owner won't need it in Euro land), then surrender that at the same time & wait for your cheque from DVLA. If they are driving it home, they will obviously need the tax disc for the UK leg of the trip... so ask them to post it back to you :)

This was all that was required when my car went to Amsterdam...
However, when my other car went to France, the buyer needed me to sign a form which acted as a certificate for the sale (Certificat De Cession D'un Vehicule), as the French DVLA equivilent needed it so he could register the car over there... so there may be another small bit of paperwork depending on the country it goes to.
