Tyres
Tyres
Talking to a friend today who works in the motor trade and he tells me July 2012 no more AO48 type tyres aloud on road cars. Apparently do not pass EU aquaplaning and noise regs, was wondering if anybody can shed any light on the matter. Everybody knows they are original spec.

Re: Tyres
It would seem as yet no R-type tyres have the required S-mark to be offered for sale once the law on >185 width tyres comes into force.
I'm guessing that the relevant tyre companies will simply work out the relevant changes to make the tyre quiet enough from next year. I quite fancy an R-tyre where the first 1mm of rubber is a conventional tread pattern; these will pass the new laws I think and will take another decade to outlaw
I would love it if everyone just agreed to ignore the new law
Cheers,
Robin

Re: Tyres
Origional spec for a reason and I'll continue to fit them unless Yoko bring out an alternative which is just as good.
Re: Tyres
Problem is that you need the manufacturer to keep making them, and it will be illegal to sell tyres that don't have the S-mark (in the case of the fronts in 2011, rears 2012, I think).
It doesn't make sense to stock pile them either, because after a couple of years, the tyres won't be all that good, even if you keep them warm and dry. Not sure what the storage limit is, but I wouldn't like a set that are a couple of years old (like the ones on my car
).
