S2 Elise Brake recommendations
S2 Elise Brake recommendations
My 2006 111R has now covered around 28000 miles and the discs are getting a little tired. Its time to replace all 4 discs and fit a new set of pads.
The current discs are the original ones fitted to the car when new and are vented and cross drilled. I currently have EBC yellow stuff pads fitted.
Has anyone any experience of these guys :-
CRN Performance. They currently have a set of 4 discs and Mintex 1144 pads for around £300. ebay item 360184644123
Motorist warehouse car parts. They currently have a set of 4 discs and Mintex 1144 pads for around £300 ebay item 220464253201
Any better alternatives ? I don't want to spend a fortune upgrading brakes to AP calipers and pagids but would like good stopping power at a reasonable price.
cheers
Alan

Re: S2 Elise Brake recommendations
The EBC UMX disks combined with the Carbone Lorraine RC5 pads will be my next picks, but you'll be lucky to get change out of 500 quid for a full car set....
Both the ebay advers dont quote who supplied the disks, so i'd be wary that they may be made from poorer quality material. May not be a concern with the 1144 pads, as they are generally pretty kind to the disk but as you move towards a more aggreesive pad such as the RC5, disk wear might be high.
Cheers,
Steve

another vote for Carbone Lorraine's but make sure they're RC5+ as heard of some probs with earlier RC5's. Made a huge difference to std brakes on my exige and can't fault them on std discs

I've used CRN performance a few times and all good so far

Re: S2 Elise Brake recommendations
I just fitted EBC ultimax disc's and Mintex 1144 pads all round on the Exige. Only had a couple of runs out with them but first impressions where that they are a big improvement over standard. About £400 all in for 4 disc's and pads.

Same here with the discs on the front, those EBC's are as good as anything at that price.
Pads, Mintex for economy, Pagid or Carbone for performance.

Yep, another vote for EBC ultimax disc's and Mintex 1144 pads all round - don't think you get them in any other shapes

Re: S2 Elise Brake recommendations
I bought my pads and disc from JRT (Mintex & EBC). Was the best deal around at the time

Bought mine from Larkspeed on flee bay, just under £300 for all 4. Delivery wasn't brilliant had to wait for them to come in from EBC. Pads from Geary at eliseparts.

Re: S2 Elise Brake recommendations
Dunnoe about the Motorist Warehouse... but I used CRN last month (via eBay) to get me a new set of front & rear drilled Brembo disks for the Megane. Been quite a few Megane owners used CRN for the Brembo's. Disks looked fine to me on arrival, although I suspect they buy 'blanks' in & drill/groove them in-house... as the official drilled Brembo's you get from Renault have a different pattern (CRN supply a left & right handed disk with 3 holes from inner to outer... the Brembo's from Renault aren't handed, and the pattern ranges from 2 to 4 holes).
So, if they are doing it with the Brembo's... I'd take a stab that they are buying blanks in for the others as well.
Their advert for the Elise disks doesn't say who the manufacturer is... so I'd be tempted to find that out first.... or, as per Stewart... another vote for JRT Automotive, as I used them in the past too with no problems.
Andy.

I run his long grooved discs and pagid RS14 pads. the discs have long grooves which give a good pedal feel, deglazing the pads and letting the hot gasses escape without the gritty feel of a cross drilled disc. Highly recomended, also does disc and bell kits.
