Its also James Winstanley from stark whos doing the article so likely to be worth a wee read for a bit of insight from the kits designer

Best of luck with it :thumbsup
How about a 300 BHP one Andy ?

Same spec as above but with a 2.2 Bottom End/High Compression Pistons and heavier cams.

Fancy building one for myself, if funds and jen allow.

Alan
Well if we're building one then..........

sounds like a cracking plan :thumbsup :cheers

:welcome to Scottish Elises Ken,

Simple Head work to get the maximum out of the the Standard bottom end and Rev range.

Set of custom made camshafts that will be made by Clockwise Motion.
Upgraded valve springs (OEM).
Head removed and skimmed with a High Compression head gasket, try and up the compression past 12:1.
RBC Manifold with modified Throttle Body.
2bular (Over the Top) Manifold and Silencer.
Kpro ECU

I would like to go for heavier cams but would need to fit high compression pistons to get the benefit and the cams are Chain/Tensioner friendly :thumbsup

Have some Household DIY for the morning then I will strip the rest of the engine tonight.

That's some lurking Mac.

Welcome to your first post on Scottish_Elises. Also a Honda S1 convertee, have an N/A done six years and a S/C one fitted three years ago. It has just sheered a driveshaft at Knockhill, so fitting an uprated one.

Ken,
I asked James if he could make the shafts with the Ford outer. He agreed but charging me £45 extra (something like that) for the extra maching costs. I'm sure he would do the same for you.

He did say that they have not had a failure yet using the MG Rover Outer. So had to explain it was for Colin (Car Destroyer/Banned from AA) Murray :D

Thanks for the pics Sanjoy :thumbsup

I know the ones Driveshafts Craig had made for the SC car were 28 spline and buy a motorsport manufactor and were I think useing a Ford Focus Diesel outer ~he struggled to get a speedo drive ring ~which Pilbeam Racing designe will make in any size you require to fit the CV outer your useing approx £35+

MacLotus wrote:Ford Outer? That's interesting. Just a beefier CV Joint over the Lotus? And the S1 hub carrier and bearing work just fine / no mods?

Is the outer CV the weak link in the shaft? Is that where yours failed Tut?

Do I ask too many questions?
Everything past the Honda Engine is a week link :D

The ford joint matches the hub but as Hamish said you need to fit a pulse ring. Stark will supply you with a complete assembly. After that the S1 wheel bearings is the week link, really not up to the job. Nitron do hubs with larger bearings but the cost a packet.

However, the bearing in the S2 elise is different and much stronger. That's not to say it won't fail if you put a lot of heat into it, but it won't fail nearly as quickly.

Cheers,
