S1 Roof Refurb options - Hethel no longer do refurbs :(

Post by les » Thu Apr 29, 2010 2:37 pm

Hi Guys,

Anyone know a good place to get the stitching redone on my roof, after almost 14 years, the thread has deteriorated and needs restitched along with the plastic bar being snapped. In typical fashion, as of yesterday, Lotus no longer do retrims or offer the roof refurb service. I'm guessing a sailmakers could the restitching?

Balls-o, mine was on the long list of things to get done at some stage...

Guess this leaves an opening for some keen type - I wonder if Craig at MMC has started checking out options yet...

Spoke to Bell and Colville about it, they should call me back. Mel himself hasn't got any options on it eaither yet, wondering if your even able to buy the plastic front strip itself :(

If the trim shop is still at Hethel and Mel is still there.... what possible justification can they have for stopping doing refurbs?? It's not like they have 1,0000s to do each day or that we expect it done for free.

The roof is known to be a sh*t design... even the making off video says it's just a "get me home" roof.

Sounds like a typical example of newly recruited graduate employee embarking on some costcutting without a clear understanding of the business itself and how a small service like this makes a big difference to the owners without actually costing Lotus much to provide..... :protest

Just like the time a similar bawbag de-listed the top selling cigarette in Scotland from the available brands stocked at BP petrol stations... because he only looked at the London figures.....

rant rant rant....

Whilst I agree with you mate - there's no obligation to a manufacturer to support a vehicle 10 years out of production. Although in this case, I'm with you in that I can't see any great cost to Lotus in having some plastic strip and a stitching template hanging around.

Mel stated all 're-trimming' rather than just mentioning the roof refurb. Its earily days has he only got told yesterday afternoon, still a complete PITA though

That sounds a bit more ominous if they're closing the whole re-trim dept....

Sounds exactly like the new regime putting cost-cutting in place. Ties in nicely with the 10 year parts support cutoff as well, mind you.

Bloody shame - as Dave said, an added value customising/repair service to customers isn't something a handbuilt car manufacturer should be removing...
