340R Colin's Honda Conversion
Re: 340R Colin's Honda Conversion
If you have a flat plate with a circular hole how is it structural? elongating the hole will reduce the structural intergrety of the chassis without doubt but by what margin?
It would have been much worse if we cut away the corner but hang on... at the opposite side of the tank on the rear where the fuel inlet is, it passes through the corner of this "structural part" of the chassis, surely someone should contact lotus and warn them that they made a mistake?

Hits his head of a brick wall
You can remove the pump assembly and replace the fuel pump with a higher flow unit, thats what I did on Colins. Walbro make the pumps and they get advertised as like OEM fitment but they aint. You have to add bits of pipe and re wire the pump.
It will work but I wasn't that impresses.
I don't know anyone that sells a complete unit (already converted)

Could be the same as Scotty's, bought ours from Gaz who frequents SELOC. Just dug through my archives and found these.

"As to the other enquiry, their is no single answer, the flow/pressure depends upon the pump I fit. In your case I fitted a Walbro190 which will supply about 130 lts/hr at 57 psi (Honda rail pressure) this is enough to support about 350BHP with a 20% margin for losses and over supply."
"Hi Tut
OK, The S2 unit is completely different, it is a cheap nasty bit of kit that has a very small collector can (300cc) and only a single filter.
As the collector can inlet is not filtered but the pump is, the collector not only collects fuel but also all the crap/fod from the bottom of the tank! they usually have a layer of silt in the bottom of the can.
In time, I will sort the retro fitting of the uprated S1 unit with it's 400cc capacity and superior design into the S2 though this will require my new alloy tank as the pump seating is different. the harness connection and the fuel lines have already been sorted, just the resistance of the sender to sort
I already uprate the S2 pumps for Bernard's creations, up to 400 BHP if fact, though there is quite a bit of work involved as the pressurised return fuel also powers the eductor pump that shifts the fuel from the tank to the can, and this jet needs to be matched to the pump.
A re-furbish on these units is £167, that includes fitting a new Walbro pump, pump harness, eductor jet setting, and on the powerful 255 pump also a secondary return pressure relief. The only part I cannot replace is the filter; it is not available as a spare but forms part of the pump support.
Up to now though they have cleaned up OK without issue.
Alternatively I can work on a new unit, this has the advantage of a new filter, sender resistor, etc. I actually have a new one here that Richard at Blink ordered then cancelled when the "secret project" it was designed for was put on the back burner.
Normally I charge £267 for a converting a new unit as the pump costs £100 ish from Lotus, but if Brian wants to go the new route then he can have this one for £237 as it is just collecting dust.
It will be fitted with the same 190HP pump I fitted to yours and this will be fine for 350BHP @ 60 psi (Honda SC rail pressure).
There will NOT be a problem fitting this uprated pump into the car now. As it is already Honda powered there will be no fuel warming issues though I would not recommend it's fit into a sub 160 BHP car.
Normal conditions, all prices exchange, no VAT, postage at cost, usually around £8 insured special delivery.
12 month warranty on the pump/workmanship only for re-furbished units.
12 month immediate exchange for the full unit if a new unit is requested.
Despite the above limitation, I will always consider a unit outside the warranty period.
Re-furbing takes a couple of days, a new unit can be in the post in the morning
Have fun

We fitted the 255 pump and it cost £80.

Re: 340R Colin's Honda Conversion
N1 has a standard pump, so what is the need to replace it? Is it because of the extra expected hp of Collins over my 220?

Mine is 220 BHP and i'm on 92% duration so with his Inlet/exhuast manifold and the cams I have to upgrade the pump. I might even have to replace the injectors, hoping not too.

Re: 340R Colin's Honda Conversion
Don't agree with this at all,
The Walbro pump is a fair bit smaller than the original pump, you only modify the Feed to the Pump (return is untouched) and 2 wires.

I prefer simple tried and tested solutions.MacLotus wrote:Just what I was told from someone who had a twice failing Gaz-modified unit... probably many more happy with theirs, but the one that fails gets all the notice. I'm sure it works great. I'm still looking seriously at a secondary pump in-line (vs the swirl pot)... maybe even two regulators (one primary, one secondary).
The most common upgrade is the 2nd pump and Swirl Pot and works great. Thats what I would do.
