Hand Wash
Hand Wash
Was wondering if anyone could tell me where I can get my car handwashed in the Edinburgh area. Long story but i'll try make it short, they are building flats opposite my house and one of the workies trucks spilt something that has the consisitancy of soot all over my car and the company will only pay max £10 to clean it off!!! He suggested going to a morrissons style jet wash but i refused to take my car to one so has said he will give me £10 to get someone to handwash it!!!! Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
Re: Hand Wash
Shame it's Edin as there's about six on the main road through Prestwick/Ayr that I live on.
Must be a squads of eastern european types in spare brownfield sites all over the city?

He's having a laugh if he thinks a tenner will put it right. A £10 wash will probably inflict damage to the paint especially if it is covered in soot. Tell him your car only gets professionally washed to keep it in pristine condition and you want to keep it like that. Go back and ask him to give you £50 on top of that for a decent valet or you will seek legal advice.
Re: Hand Wash
I said to him the only way my car gets washed was by me (not very often) or buy a valeter as the paint is in pristine condition....he said there was no way he would pay £50 for a valeter as you can get these 'dodgy' folk that do it by hand for a fiver!!!!! he also said how can i prove it was their workies, I said its not like someone just drives through my estate and happens to dump something all over the cars. He seemed to think it justified it that all the workies and his car were also effected although he did agree mine seemed to be the worst....not happy!!!

Re: Hand Wash
Next time your passing the site get the phone number for the company doing the works. Give them a ring a tell them what has happened to your car and the possible damage a quick wash could do. Then go on to say how things could have been worse if children were covered by the soot etc etc
Its illegal for a lorry to have a loose load that hasn't been sheeted, thats worth a mention too.

Aye, but really...? In the real world? Do you think it'd be worth court for a dirty car and TBH I don't see any judge siding with Mel, given that the foreman, whilst not admitting any blame, offered an amount to wash. 99% of people would consider a tenner to wash a car more than fair - I'd think a court would be similar.mainsy wrote:He's having a laugh if he thinks a tenner will put it right. Not fun, but unfortunately cars left outdoors are at risk to all sorts - sticky soot isn't the worst that could have happened... Get shirty (and especially take it over his head) and what'll probably happen is the foreman will rescind the offer and deny all knowledge of the incident.

Yeah I agree, I wouldn't take this that far for the sake of a few quid but the fact that the foreman offered cash, shows he knows they are liable. So turning the screws may be enough to persuade him to come good.Shug wrote:Aye, but really...? In the real world? Re: Hand Wash
There is a drive in car wash on Ferry Road at the top of Fettes - think they would do a hand wash but I would think it is more than a tenner
Alternatively there is another similar Car Wash on Slateford Road next to the BP Garage

Re: Hand Wash
I originally called the office for the building company as trying to get hold of the site manager here is always a nightmare. They dont really care to be honest and prob the offer of the money is better than they would normally give. My car is always covered in dust inside and out from the building works which I appreciate is gonna happen when u live on a building site, it was just this time its properly covered in black 'soot' all over so thought would try get them to rectidy the situation as this is above and beyond the normal day to day dust coming off the site. I'll maybe head to the one on ferry road ask them how much they will do it for. Thanks.
