Re: Car dilema - 430 replacement
We've talk about your new can once and said you shouldn't be tracking it as you already have the Lotis. So forget taking it on track. Provided that you won't, I think you could potentially make money on XJ220 or McL SLR. You won't be worried about seeing another when driving it.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

I wrote a long reply to this the other day but my network dropped and lost it..Andy G wrote:Peters R8 is a seriously nice car though - these 2 are going to have to be VERY special to beat it![]()

I love the R8 for what I need but you do have more options available to you and have some very very nice cars on your shortlist. I think it depends on how much track use you want from it. I went for the R8 on the grounds of - rarer than a 911, easy to live with day to day and in theory fairly reliable and relatively cheap to run (vs Aston, Maserati etc).
You have the option of living with something a little more temperamental and with more track bias so the Scud and Superleggera have to be way up the list. For something in a similar price bracket to the R8 but more track bias then the GT3s would be fantastic cars (and lets face it, you have to own a 911 at some point in your life).
If the 340 is your track car now and you want something that you can jump in everyday and have some fun with too I'd definately recommend the R8. Always welcome to have another look/run in mine if it helps.
Cheers, Peter

there is a guy driving round ABZ in a red V10.
I think his private plate is worth about the same as the car.

If you are looking to be semi-sensible on the financial side then the GT40 would be one to look at.
Prices are fairly stable at £120k +/- 5k and have been for the past 12-18 months. I went down to Mountune Automotive, who are the UK Service Centre in Essex, last year when Wendy and I were going through the will we /won't we discussions since it is otherwise fairly hard to see 2 / 3 /4 cars together. A major problem is availability of cars tho since most of the ones which sell apparently do so without really being advertised. We tend to hold on to cars for a while so were looking at not really losing any money and are probably more into cruising around or dawdling through the countryside so the actual specific performance on the road/track is less important than it would probably be to you since you are more focused on the "driving" aspect but circa 650(ish) BHP should at least be entertaining for ya although I guess things like Scud/SL/GT2*/3 might corner better
Running and servicing costs seem substantially less than anything Italian. Also, it seems like a lot of the tales of poor reliability are a bit unfair (although I guess the Service Agents might say that) but one of the mods on PH has Clarksons GT40 and doesn't seem to have had any issues with it. Steering wheel is still on the wrong side tho
Edited to say that perhaps the GT2 might not corner much better

Challange Srtara-ha-ha-le.
I know its a step backwards of sorts, but its the only way you'll come even close to matching the depreciation of the 430 on that list - but lets be honest having 'depreciation' as one of your criteria is a little odd-ball with that list of potentials. With the newer metal there's just not enough known about the market for them yet to gauge the depreciation curve yet - hence the suggestion of the 360. The other thing with the 430 was you bought at the bottom of the curve, when everyone with big engines was wetting their briefs, off-loading and flooding the market. You sold on the upwards curve which is why you "made" the money, rather than the 430 being a depreciation-proof choice.
The 997 GT2 is nothing like the 993 according to a man (sadly not me!) that's driven both. If you want a Scud, they will still lose cash - I think dave bought his £40k less than list and it had something daft like 2k miles on the clock. That said, I think the billing address of the first owner started, "Royal Bank of."
Bollocks to all of that though. I can see you in a lamborghini
Not sure if the one I see you in is a Gayardo SL however .. Buy a Murci!

Re: Car dilema - 430 replacement
I think you have to consider very carefully as to how you will be using the car if you get a big Lambo. They are so wide that on road runs a la TT, especially single tracks or the very narrow roads, they just would not be as enjoyable as an agile, narrow Elise variant.
Similar state of affairs on track apart from the longer wider ones. i have been on with a very well driven green one at KH, and he could certainly throw it around, one of the few cars that could pull away a bit on the straight, and was not much slower on the corners, but could not stay out for very long.
However give them the right roads, probably wider smoother ones in the Alps, and they would be something else.

Only problem with the 430 scud is the 458 scud comes out in April, so prices will drop then.
