Turbo question NLC
Turbo question NLC
My Shogun has started making some new whistling noises that stop as the rpm increases and it also makes some bell like noises when it idles. My first thought was the turbo and I've just had a look. It seems to rotate fine but how much clearance should there be on the bearing? I can feel a few thou - is that normal?
Re: Turbo question NLC
a few thou is fine tolerance
is there any cracks/leaks in the manifold?

It all looks OK and I've just run it with the intake pipes removed - seemed fine! It did have an exhaust fitted a little while ago and one of the joints looks a bit suspect so I'll check that after lunch.

Well, a whole day checking everything and no further forward. It is high pitch whistle that sounds a bit like an electronic bleeper (almost out of my hearing range) when applying power at the lower RPMs. It is worst after start up and starts and stops abruptly.
Any ideas appreciated.

Well, I'was probably nearer to the mark than I thought. The immobiliser refused to turn off the other day so after some head scratching and dismantling half the car, I replaced it and got the car going again. Guess what? No whistle
