Car dilema - 430 replacement
Re: Car dilema - 430 replacement
hi andy,
wow what a dilema!.....
reading through all the quotes from the other guys and i find myself agreeing with them all!lol.
if it was me( i wish
) and i was shelling out that sort of cash, i would suggest on taking your time, doing your home work and defo test diver each car, before comitting........i know this seems obvious advice, but the best i can give
.
as a after thought, have you considered a ulitma GTR......get the 720 Bhp version. it will be very good on the track im sure, but dont know what it would be like on the road day to day........anyway, just a thought; or save your pennies and get a ferrari enzo in black!!

High power Ultimas tend to break a lot on track........

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

Hey,
If your interested Andy, one of the chaps coming out with us on Sunday has a 997 gt2, not sure if youve actually got into one for a test drive or found one outside a showroom but if you want to catch it let me know. He is a petrol head and was happy to help you if he could.
Give us a shout if its of any use,
cheers

Loving the look of the SLS in White and if I had the money I would be seriously tempted with that.
However - still convinced you would love the CLK- Black Series (only thing The Stig likes chasing more is sheep). I know it pretty bland looking, mistaken for a cheaper Merc but its a completely epic car - something only anarok's would spot.

Re: Car dilema - 430 replacement
Andy,
I have been reading this thread with interest, as I have been down the same road recently. I was looking for a good 997 GT3/RS, and have done a lot of chasing over the last 18 months. From my experience, the one piece of advice I would offer if you are going down the Porsche route is to get any potential purchase independently inspected, even if it is being sold through an OPC.
There are some cracking cars out there, but also some horror stories. GT 2/3/RS series cars are built for a purpose, and sometimes they suffer the consequences. Take your time and find a good one and you will have a ball......

Re: Car dilema - 430 replacement
thanks guys - some great advice and a kind offer flip flop.
Gt2 I've now decided against after more research. I think the 911 of my dreams would be a Gt2 RS in a few years!
Thinking now though is towards the 997 GT3 or GT3RS, and will start trying to find a good one. Advice taken though.
The more i read about the superleg, the more it reminded me of why i sold the 430. A "drivers car" above all things is what i want this for, and a few reviewers have stated the Superleg's e-gear is slow and clunky, with the carbon cermics devoid of feel.
Given everything else thats going on the rs is starting to make more and more sense, although a good gt3 might just get the nod

Re: Car dilema - 430 replacement
Wise words regarding pre-purchase inpection. I wanted to know rev history and make sure RS still had original panels.
Re: Car dilema - 430 replacement
If you are looking for a good GT3/RS, these establishments are worth keeping an eye on to get a feel for what is available:
http://www.911virgin.com/
http://www.rsjsportscars.co.uk/
http://www.specialistcarsltd.co.uk/
http://www.jzmporsche.com/
This guy also seems to get very good feedback on the Porche forums as someone who can source cars to your requirements:
http://www.stirlings.co.uk/
Closer to home, I receievd some great help and advice from Graeme Shepherd at Porsche Edinburgh. He is a real enthusiast, having worked as a mechanic before moving over to the sales side, so he understands what these cars are about.
No affiliation to any of the above, and apologies if this is teaching granny to suck eggs.......

Re: Car dilema - 430 replacement
A mate of mine has just traded in his '57 plate GT3 for a brand new 997 Turbo. Pic below from my tracknight at end May (with a stunning 111s in the background which is also about to go up for sale !). He just got the Turbo a couple of weeks ago. From Edinburgh dealership I think so might still be there but could find out where for sure if interested as nothing at all wrong with the GT3 - he just found it a bit extreme for his needs.Andy G wrote: Thinking now though is towards the 997 GT3 or GT3RS, and will start trying to find a good one.
