I too had problems with my 3G running slowly since OS4. It's doing my head in!! Every so often the thing will just freeze while typing text, and I have to sit and wait for it to kick back into life again to continue. the battery is also running out quicker as well. I don't even notice much difference in the new features either. As I have a 3G, I can't use multi tasking, the spell checker is annoying and the predictive thing has changed slightly and annoys me too! It's rubbish!!!

Worked fine on my 3g - until I bounced it.

Jen, try doing a hard reset. Hold the home button and the lock button down until the apple logo appears. Do this a couple of times and it should be a bit faster for a while. It'll get slower again gradually but at least you'll get a couple of days of improved performance. Doing that seemed to sort out my battery life too.

If you have iOS4 on a 3G then you need to disable (some or all of) the indexing as the phone cannot keep up.

To disable Spotlight for iPhone, follow these simple steps:
o Launch Settings app
o Go to General –> Spotlight Search
o Deselect indexing for all or as many items as possible

What does 'indexing' do?

In other words, how do I kow what items I can disable it for and what I need to leave it on for?

Edit- does the spotlight search thing mean using the search function on the phone? If so I can deselect all as I never use that- I know where things are on my phone!

Ditto.
Got an HTC Desire on order and hope it is better than the HTC Touch HD which was awful!

Our IT guy read an article recently stating that from July 29th you will not get access to Exchange if you are on IOS 4.0.0. IOS 3.x.x is not affected.
If you sync emails, contacts etc with Exchange Server you need to update to OS4.01 if you want to keep that functionality.
Has anyone else heard this?

No discernable difference for me, but in the last week it had gone from almost unusable to merely annoying. It's still at merely annoying - almost lost a call there as the slider wouldn't respond for an age...

Reminds me of the King Size Homer episode.

Went into the Apple store today to air my grievances and see if there was anything their techy guys can do. They could only suggest I do a restore while plugged into itunes and that was it. They told me the older phones cant keep up with the new software and there is nothing we can do about it, except buy a new phone. Poor Show Apple. :thumbsdown :thumbsdown :thumbsdown
