WANTED - S1 original airbox hose

Need the flexi bit which runs from the atmosphere side of the airbox to the side vent - mine has torn thanks to clever design of the airbox clip nearby, which has fouled and chafed it over 11 years I think.

If anyone has such gubbins left over after doing a K&N install etc, please let me know.

Currently patched up with duct tape

Campbell, if you measure the outside diameter of the flange then you can order the right stuff from car builder solutions:

For example:

You can measure the OD with a bit of string wrapped around the duct, measure the length of the string, divide by pi (or just 3.14).

BTW, left you a VM re: balljoint works today, needless to say have not touched it for fear of disastrous results, did my "A" Service instead. Are you still OK for Weds as originally planned? Let me know either way because I will need to set a contingency plan if not...want to be ship shape for my (one and only??) Campaganza of the season this Friday

Sorry Campbell, I have been up to my eyeballs since coming back from Tiree and totally forgot about our plans for today Will be OK for Wednesday though ... and will find my telephone charger and turn it back on too, as I am hopeless without people calling me to remind me what I am supposed to be doing!

That's quite OK, you are a busy chap! Looking forward to hearing about Tiree. I doubt you can bring Thomas since it's a schoolnight, but Eilidh and James were both asking for him so please do pass that on

The upside is that James helped with the A Service in any case, and I cracked on with the longest Oil Change in History Also managed to change some rotting undertray bolts for nice SS ones from GarageBench...although I must ask you about procedure for removing sheer panel ,as two spire-nuts-shmire-nuts have let go in that area now.

So a productive afternoon all the same!

I splashed some new oil over the cam-cover while James was "helping" me today. Had to grab my bottle of Gunk cleaner double-quick before I came out in a sweat.

Oh and last of all...the airbox hose might just be a part which I can credibly replace with my own skills and igenuity...without supervision...although there is still scope to botch it, I am sure

Ta, good tip. The foil lining could be useful, gives the impression of insulation from heat of the engine bay...although I bet the physics of it are actually that conduction will overcome the reflective properties and it makes naff all difference in the end

Currently eagerly awaiting Sanjoy's ex-S1 throwaways, so we shall see!

Oh and my (silver) gaffer tape is holding up quite nicely so far, Neil will be pleased to hear.

Coincidentally I've just ordered a new hose, in an effort to connect direct to the side vent (the original is too short). Connecting direct should give cooler air and avoid sucking in engine bay crap (it'll be outside crap instead ).

The exige boys had a recommended supplier which provided high temp flexi ducting, similar to a tumble drier hose for the space shuttle. It's also supposed to insulate and will not melt or burn. Not cheap (£60/m), but the discussion on the advantage of providing a bit of insulation and the concerns over it melting were interesting.
