Some snippits from the local rag.....

My right to reply

"Lotus driver banned...."

"Neil Paterson 45 who Haddington Sherriff Coart heard worked across East and Mid Lothian and the Borders has been banned for twelve months from driving in his high-powered Lotus Elise...." really Mr Fiscal, your that fuucking bright that youv'e read Colin Chapmans ethos regarding Lotus power to weight ....... :|

"The officers became conserned so they tried to keep up with him. Initially the speed was recorded at 85mph then 92mph upto 109mph... ( tried :?: , its a good job I was't in a hurry.....

He later told them " I was scrubbing in new tires " the coart heard.......

Great how they can pull little parts of the conversation together and twist it around ,pity the rest of the conversation wasn't made public.........

What a pile of crap.., and anyway on who's athority does the local rag have the right to print my situation as appose to anyone else in coart that day . I remember the sheriff giving me EYZ and a fine but I dont remember him saying to everyone else in coart ( and I don't see the gent put on the sex offenders list in the paper) that day you will not be in the local rag, or you will not be in the local rag but you will be........are we not all to enjoy the same.....

Arseholes, not that I'm bitter you understand........

Unless the court is deliberately held in private, it's my understanding that court proceedings are public, and the paper is free to print articles based on them. As usual, the newspaper ought to ensure what they print is accurate, but they can put any spin on it they want. Even if they print something that's not accurate, unless it could be considered defamatory (is that a word??), the best you'll get by way of apology is a factual correction printed somewhere at the back of next year's issue.

Cheers,
Robin

Remember a train crash 300 yards off the back of my parents old house years ago when 800 tons of gravel train couldn't stop in time and crashed into 800 tons of gravel train at 2mph.
Made a right mess twisted wreckage all over, but the drivers had go out and watched it happen from a safe distance!

It is the nuclear waste flask train route and they interviewed my dad and asked him 'are you concerned about a nuclear flask train crashing in the same way?!?'
'nope' says he, 'I'd rather they took it by train in one of them bomb proof flasks than on the road in a wagon.'

So they just made a suitably horrified statement to match their nuclear shock horror story and printed it next to his piccy, he just got a bollocks apology letter after complaining.

I was misquoted ( as a 'spokesperson') several years ago following an art theft when I was working, a few strategic words left out and a bit of cut and paste can soon change the tone of what you say completely.

We get freedom of imformation requests from journalists on a regular basis - you can often make up the headline before you have even begun to get information for them - they are masters at making up stories where one doesn't exist.

I have not bought a newspaper for about 12 years now as if you know the background of a story and then see what is reported you realise that what they report on all/ most of the news is likely to be manipulated in the same way to make sensationalist headlines and stories.

Are you sure Neil that was not taken from the Guardian with that spelling?

The Court is a public place and reporters commonly get wind of driving offences and listen in. The account will probably have been from the Fiscal who will have read out a report from the police officers. That is why that account will be the one printed.

Neil,

If you are feeling particulary spirited and eloquent, you could consider writing to the Letters Page of the same rag, with a genuine right to reply.

Worded the right way, and with suitable humility towards the end including "let this be a warning to other drivers of cars capable of more than the national speed limit", you might just get it published and clarify the facts for valued local residents.

I got a letter into our local rag recently, as it happens, and toned down my first draft significantly. I think that helped. Albeit I was on about dog sh!t near the kids' school. Hardly in the same league :-(

Time to move forward young man?!

I have Campbell... Just this afternoon another long term customer spoke with Mags and was rather upsett at the propspect of loosing my pest control services haveing worked for them for many years, commenting that she had read the paper and wondered what I was going to do???, she concluded it was JUST speed, that Neil had been done for, not drunk driving or anything else..Mags replyed Neil don't worry will be in at the begining of the month as usuall :thumbsup

As for the paper side of things, suffice to say from now on when it comes to the usuall advertising calls, etc looking for placements from both papers they can have a two worded reply for free  hitting them in the pocket where it hurts ....

Anyway must dash I have two pups knocking the seven bells out of one enother :blackeye :damnfunny

Police officers 'were aware of accident'

Two police officers charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident were aware a crash had occurred, a court was told.

A third officer in the police car at the time said a crash occurred behind them on the opposite side of the road.

Insp James Wood told Aberdeen Sheriff Court the police car did not stop.

Pc Ashley Forbes and Ch Insp Tom Forrester deny dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Ch Insp Forrester also denies wilful neglect of duty.

Ch Insp Forrester was head of roads policing at the Grampian force when he was being driven to Aberdeen Airport by junior officer Pc Forbes.

Insp Wood said: "Constable Forbes looked in his mirror. He asked the chief inspector what he wanted him to do, and whether he wanted him to stop. I took it from that, there had been a collision."

Fiscal depute Mhari Morrison asked: "Was Constable Forbes aware something had happened?"

Insp Wood replied: "Yes."

Asked what was the response from the chief inspector, Insp Wood said: "The chief inspector was looking behind him and said something like, 'don't stop, it's only minor - you can come back and deal with it'. Constable Forbes was instructed to, and continued to drive."

The trial continues.
