Was thinking of getting the girlfriend a watch for her birthday looking to spend up to about £300 and looking ideas, what brands would be worth looking at? looking for a day to day watch maybe something a bit chunky like this for example

I find buying womens watches a black art. Invariably my wife has different priorities to what I have... namely style & brand. The movement or functions don't even come in to it.
That Seiko looks nice though, but if looking for alternatives along the same lines (day-to-day/chunky/white), how about something like this?

RRP is £495, but can be had on Amazon for £350... or £295 from here. I'm sure I also saw this being sold at Costco the other week & also available with a gold coloured case.

Or something like this is in budget. I've just ordered one of these for my wifes Christmas actually.. whether she likes it though  :-

Never really liked the Lotus Type 1 watch when they came out and can remember when the dealers couldn't give them away at ~£120.

Spotted this one one eBay last week and really fancy one now. Wish I'd bought one when they came out though. :(

I think the problem was Lotus had done watches shortly before that were cheap and I think pretty naff- they were out at around the same time as the launch of the S2 when the accessory brochure had golf cleaning tools and mini torches etc.
When they brought out the Type 1 I thought it looked great but expected it to be another cheap and naff watch with a higher price tag so I decided to keep my money in my pocket. I have now been looking for one for a while but they all seem to go for £400-500.

Spent what for me is a lot of money on a watch recently. It arrived this week. The pictures tell most of the story

It's a Seiko 5 SNZF17. Brand new from Hong Kong for £86. Auto movement. Even has the days in French on it which could prove handy :thumbsup

While I am at it, I thought some of you may like to see my omega seamaster which my mother recently gave to me. It was my grandfather's. Not entirely sure where he picked it up from but I understand it was left to him in the 70's. I think it may date from the 1950's.

Twice in one day Stewart

The Seiko has the same movement as the Monster which is a "grail" watch to some on this forum and has the added advantage of looking like a Rolex Sports to blind men running for buses

The Seamaster is fab.
I recently purchased one off fleabay for a friends birthday (he was born in the year of manaufacture),and it looks great with a new brown leather strap (to match the patina of the face)

All of the above and a new car................and it's not even Christmas

:cheers
