Spa, Book-a-Track, Saturday November 13 2010 - Blitz Krieg
Re: Spa, Book-a-Track, Saturday November 13 2010 - Blitz Krieg
Robin and Craig had a bash, but thought that it was a burnt out motor. What happens is that if your fan never comes into action due to type of driving conditions, it can seize up. You can put a long thin screwdriver through the front grill and try to spin it, but mine was seized up. However it did begin turning freely but the damage had probably already been done.
A good idea if you think your fan has not kicked in for a while, is to turn it manually as above to prevent it seizing.

Re: Spa, Book-a-Track, Saturday November 13 2010 - Blitz Krieg
Good tip, Tut, and sorry to hear this.
My fan gets a good workout due to the commuting driving I sometimes do, as well as the habit I am in of leaving the car to cool in the pitlane at trackdays but only switching off once the fan has run and cut off again. Possibly another good habit to develop?
With a bit of luck you are unlikely to need it, however with no temp readout, I'd be a bit anxious!! Tell you what, this weekend in traffic etc, if my fan comes on, I'll wave some kind of flag so that you know to pull over and switch off

I thought about hassling you into coming on this trip but figured the car would be buried under 400 cardboard boxes and broken

If you've not much doing on Thursday we'll be shooting the breeze at North Weald whilst the boys rag their cars in circles

Cheers,
Robin

How long will you be there for? I'm in London in the morning (union negotiation - read the stuff earlier on the thread about unions!) but could divert to North Weald on the way back.

So what are the travel plans then Robin?
I have the car back tonight, tools and spares packed, just need to sort myself out now, and get some sleep

On Robin's behalf...
Tut and Robin departing his place 2am Thursday morning.
I'm meeting them just off the Sheriffhall Roundabout at 3am.
Small hours sprint down A68 (and A697 or A69) to reach A1 in Newcastle area, then down to M11 J7 before leaving for A14 and then North Weald Airfield for the Walshy Day.
Finish up around 4pm, hopefully, then mad dash #2 to Chunnel via M25 and Dartford crossing then M20, ifor 18.50 train to La France. Dinner beers and sleep, I hope.
That'll do for now.

LOL. Excellent. I see nothing has changed with the mad cap trips then.
I'll try and get over to North Weald after lunch for a natter.
Re: Spa, Book-a-Track, Saturday November 13 2010 - Blitz Krieg
If anything they've gotten worse...when I was in charge of scheduling, they at least started after breakfast, had a pre-booked lunch stop thrown in, and you got where you were going before bed time!!Kelvin wrote:

But in a scary kind of way I am coming round to Robin's method of madness and am particularly looking forward to emerging from deep slumber after it's all done this Sunday, just in time to take in the grand finale of the 2010 F1 season. Oh and the missus and kiddlies will be at the outlaws for a few hours more than that, peace perfect peace

Re: Spa, Book-a-Track, Saturday November 13 2010 - Blitz Krieg
I should point out that there is no viewing facility at North Weald. Walshy has insurance issues with lots of people standing around unsupervised. It will be fine to rock up at 16:00, but I don't think it will be OK for people to arrive earlier in the day and hang around the airfield. Also, you'll have a much smoother ride to the tunnel if you get onto the M25 earlier. So unless there is a really good reason to come to NW, I would get the foot down and head to the chunnel.
Also, I am no fan of driving in convoy on motorways, so I suggest everybody gets a SatNav/Map/Whatever and has at least some clue as to where they are heading for the three days, or at least pair up with somebody else who has that information and is prepared to wait for you at junctions, etc. It is impractical and dangerous to try and take a convoy of 5-10 cars along the motorways for the distances we're trying to cover in a day.
Cheers,
Robin
